Does anyone know if the new, Cutting Edge (silver) paint color is metallic?

Hi I haven’t seen it in person but yes it is the 2023 version of metallic silver. I’m noticing some photos make it look a bit darker but supposedly the promo photos on Toyota’s website are the cutting edge color.

Personally I think it’s the nicest looking.

I wonder if Cutting Edge Silver is any different than Classic Silver Metallic (1F7).

We are fully into the realm of personal opinion, but I wasn't thrilled with it in person. I was surprised at how ordinary it looked. And I didn't love how the gloss black of the fender ring looked against the silver(XLE/Limited). Almost looked cheap to me. Since I had been planning on getting the silver before changing my mind to red at the last minute, I had the opposite of buyer's remorse.

But my taste appears to be the polar opposite of some on here, so absolutely don't take my word for it. You might absolutely love the silver in person. Plus, I only saw it in a single lighting condition(overcast day); it might look great in full sunlight or at night. Full disclosure: I've owned a silver Prius for 13 years, so I might just be sick of the color.

(Still want yellow most of all.)

Now I’m worried…I was picking silver because I love my 2009 silver and I like how the silver 2023 looks in the photos and video on Toyota’s website. Is it a darker silver? I’m not crazy about the cheap looking black fender rings either. Of course they’ll probably get rid of this for 2024. That and the 19 inch tires. : /

Saw silver in a showroom. White too.

I wouldn't kick either out of the driveway in the middle of the night.

All these things are subjective, but silver- and whatever they call the white- both looked good on the cars I saw.

: ) Thanks! My goal is reliable, safe, great gas mileage. I’m picky about color but don’t have the ability to wash my car regularly plus silver doesn’t show scratches like the blue and charcoal gray. For some crazy reason I like the yellow. Black, red and tan are deal breakers for me but the 2023 looks really nice in red.

    My picky cousin who has worked for a Toyota dealership just puts her deposit down and takes whatever RAV 4 shows up next. : }

YEAH... i signed up for reservoir blue, but will take anything except black. and i do agree with your comment that light colours hide the scratches better.... and that for some odd reason the yellow looks great.

i'm sure therapy can help with the last one....i'll be signing up...

and correction to a previous post- all these things are SUBJECTIVE, not selective.

Hope i can blame autocorrect for that one.

Maybe yellow has tough/utilitarian connotation, like bulldozers, off-terrain.

Yep , and if you insist for that color you will have to choose the fully loaded version in Canada to get it.....after a long wait.....not cheap !

Something else to think about when choosing the color. Research has found that the lighter, brighter the color, the lower the incidence of accidents. The reason appears to be that light, bright colors pop, and contrast against the surroundings, so white and yellow are safest and black is least safe.

When driving around town at night, observe how white pops as though it glows, while black and dark grey becomes invisible when not under a streetlight.

Yes. Thanks for reminder. I would get white but it will look dirty all the time. : / I think silver is fairly visible at night but not so much during the day. This is why I keep my lights on despite the more frequent expensive bulb replacements. I didn’t realize silver cars are popular with car thieves.

I’ve haven’t owned a white car (yet), but I’ve actually heard the opposite about them. It’s supposedly the one of the easiest colors to keep looking clean.

Maybe I’m surrounded by people who don’t clean their cars : } or maybe it’s New England weather. I often see white cars with large brown water drips along doors and bumpers. Plus I frequently see pristine looking white cars with a bumper that is a different shade of white. I assumed maybe the white is a challenging paint color to match. Pros and cons to all colors I guess.

I like the look of white SUVs but for some reason don’t care as much for the Prius in white. Not sure why.

That’s fair! For me, I’ve mostly been noticing road salt griming up my gray car shortly after a wash and I can’t help but think it would be less noticeable on white. Heh. But I can definitely see your point on color matching, too, especially with a “premium” pearl white color. White wasn’t my top pick for the 2023 Prius, but it’s what I got allocated and it’s really grown on me ever since.

Blizzard Pearl was the colour that was peeling off in 3rd gen. Once bitten...?

Also a fair point! I did some googling on this a while ago and this issue doesn’t seem quite as common for the Wind Chill Pearl? Of course, with it being a “newer” color, maybe there just isn’t as much documentation on it.

Yeah not sure if it was the colour, one paint manufacturer's screw-up, the way it was applied. Toyota wasn't very responsive either, to put it politely.

It's metallic, barely. It's pretty close to the sonic silver.

Toyota paint is proven shite, every Toyota I've ever owned peeled in one way or another.
