2023 Prius Prime - official prices paid thread

Reserved a 2023 Prius Prime XSE (no premium) a few days ago. bought at MSRP $38024. doesnt really have a ton of options, but its got a few things i wished my 22 Prime had. put down money the day the salesman called me, and it already on the ship and on its way here now... should take delivery in mid may

 

Up here in Canada, the dealer offered me the showroom car (XSE Premium) they have coming in May at MSRP. The moderate concern is it's not in our preferred color. The major concern is they are tacking on $6k of mandatory protections:
- Rust/undercoating/paint/leather
- Ceramx on windows
- Paint protection film
- Tire/Rim warranty
- First two years of servicing

That's all stuff I have no to little use for, except the servicing, which is worth about $400.

If I decline this one, they indicated it could be a year or more until they are able to get an XSE Premium in the colour options we want. Not sure how much to believe that, but I sure am not shelling out $6k just to be first in line.

 

How is that $6k? The first two years of servicing should be barely anything for a new car and the rest is hardly anything

 

The breakdown is roughly:
- Rust/undercoating/paint/leather $2k
- Ceramx on windows $2k
- Paint protection film $1k
- Tire/Rim warranty $500
- First two years of servicing, etc. $500

 

They are looking for a SPECIAL buyer...one who wants to be first and doesn't care about the $6k of add-ons that have value to a select few...some call it SPECIAL...others call it retarded. They are playing the waiting game.

In the Us the first 2 oil changes are on Toyota, that's 30,000 miles before you pay, the rest of the "deal" cost the dealer less than 100$, if you really, really, really want the vehicle, get the dealer down to 100$ or walk.

 

6k of extras is alot. Id hard pass on that.
QQin June, the Corolla cross hybrid amd the prius prime will start arriving, the supy demand dynamics will change and you can almost certainly get a better deal in July or August.

Checking on any updates. Prime will not have any rebates because it’s not made in North America, right? Any rumors of this changing?

I’ve settled on Prius XLE $33k with standard 8 in screen. I like the12 in screen but please talk me out of it!

Then my mind jumps to the Prime XSE at $37k (no dealer mark ups) being a better choice long term. Dislike the red accents but would get used to them I guess. Only $4k more to get the additional plug in feature. Am I crazy? Bisco, please don’t answer that!! : )

How soon might apartment complexes be required to have chargers? I don’t even know how that would work unless there are a bunch of chargers.

 

Prius vs Prime: I'll give you the thought process I used, and you can see if you agree with it and if any of it applies to you(each person's situation is different).

My situation: I live in a region where the average daily high temp for five months of the year is below 40F. While it's very flat, we do get a good deal of snow and ice, and conditions can change rapidly. I put on well less than 10k miles a year. The car will be garaged with access to a wall outlet. I can get a Prius at MSRP within 100 miles of me within a couple months, but a Prime could be a year wait or more and it will almost certainly be $5k or more above MSRP if I want to buy within 500 miles(we will get very, very few of them).

So I looked at whether I would get anything close to my value out of a Prime. First, I'm not putting on a ton of miles. Second, the Prime will almost certainly run its engine to warm up if the temp is below a certain threshold. With my driving patterns, I would be typically reaching my destination just as the engine finishes warming up. My situation negates the advantages of a Prime for almost half the year.

As for a regular Prius, I could put some of that money I wouldn't be spending on a Prime and get an AWD model. While I've gotten by just fine for 13 years with a FWD gen3 with good tires, I'm not going to say no to switching to an AWD with good tires. Plus the lower overall cost and greater accessibility of a Prius over a Prime.

In the end, there just weren't enough advantages to a Prime to get it over an AWD Prius in my case. Your case will undoubtably differ. Your profile says you live in Connecticut. Look into your temps and average snowfall. Consider the amount you drive each year and whether it's very short trips or longer ones. Remember that on pure gasoline power, the Prime has the worst mpg(because of the extra battery weight). For the Prime to be worth it, you have to be in a situation where it's going to be using its ICE as little as possible. Think about your situation and see if that's you.

For me, the end result was a Prius AWD Limited that will be arriving in June or July. (I really want the Panoramic View Monitor, and the heated rear seats could be a big plus up here in the frigid north. )

 

Why not just get the awd Corolla hybrid?

 

Thank you! You gave me more to think about. We’ve been having mild winters and my first choice would be FWD with good all season tires for best gas mileage. Close to zero chance of FWD appearing on New England allocation list. My primary reason for a Prius is because I drive approx 30-50 miles each way 4-5 days per week going 40-65 mph. No charger available unless I use public access at library or beach (PIA). Gas mileage is important because of my fixed income.

If all goes well, car is being purchased for me as inheritance so the extra cost of Prime isn’t a huge deal but I wasn’t thinking of the lower gas mileage due to heavier battery. It’s also probably best that I don’t gamble waiting another year for this transaction to happen. I’ve already been waiting a long time and passed on a 2022 once I saw the 2023.

I’m fortunate to have dealership that isn’t marking up the price.

I guess if I really regret not getting a Prime due to change of circumstances and charger availability, I could switch to a Prime later as long as there would be folks still looking for regular Prius. Yes, that’s my fear right there. : }

The panoramic view monitor would be great. Don’t get me thinking about that now. : )

2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid: Three's Company Too

 

I'm a single car household and I really use the hatchback. It might be thing I like most about the Prius(even above the mpg). Now if Toyota ever brought the Corolla hatch/touring over from Europe...

And I considered the Cross, but I don't like it. I'm not a SUV/CUV kind of guy. Plus all the things it doesn't have that I'll be getting with my Limited. And the interior dimensions are really close. 20.3 vs 21.5 and 91.2 vs 93.8. Heck, if you swap out the cargo tray from the LE, the Prius actually has more cargo space than the Cross.

 

Yes, I had my eye on the Corolla hatch too.

What features of the Prius Limited do you really like. I’m guessing you are getting Prime since this is a Prime thread. I’m waiting for an Prius XLE but wish the hatchback opened automatically. I love my 2009 Prius “limited” with leather seats and upgraded stereo.

 

Sigh... hatch release....when I went from a 2014 Pilot to a 2021 Rav4Prime SE (Canadian spec) my deepest sorrow was losing the power hatch release.

Still bitter.
