    Back then, the NICADs would only take a partial charge if it was put on the charger while the battery had a significant charge remaining. Many people thought that the same would apply to all rechargeable batteries. Toyota/Panasonic were one of the first to publicly acknowledge that NiMH cells would last much longer if they were used in a duty cycle with a shallow discharge followed by a reasonable recharge rate.

    Somewhere around 2007 I recall one of the techs in the local flashlight collector's group showing us that he was using a huge liion battery pack to allow the pack to charge in minutes to a point where he could draw 600 watts to run his prototype flash light with an aircraft landing light mounted on a pistol grip. Some of us flashlight freaks knew what we were doing. Others were as likely to burn out a $40 5 watt LED as they were to light up the room.
