As long as it's not pineapple and ham.
The first time somebody tried to do that to me (Seattle in the 80's) I thought it was some kind of prank that the locals pulled on non-locals.

It's not just any old ham, it's Canadian Bacon, and it's delicious. So sue me... :D

My dad used to get anchovy paste. In tubes, like toothpaste.

Eating an anchovy pizza is much nicer than smelling them when they bake. I don't know why that is, but they really don't smell good until they come out.

While we are beefing on pizza: I love it when they offer pineapple as a topping. I don't like it when it is thick chunks out of a can, and not seared, grilled or even patted dry. It's fantastic if you use thin slices and zorch them on a hot grill for a minute just to knock the moisture level down a bit. Pair that up with a salty meat and it's amazing. Makes me sad that more real pizzerias haven't figured this out.

For the benefit of those who would ban pineapple from "pizza", we should just get rid of the name "pizza" and give it an Americanized name. And keep putting our pineapple on it.

The great majority of what we currently call "pizza" doesn't conform to the authentic Italian dish anyway. A new name could reflect what we've created from that imported idea.

I have no problem with that in principle, but I don't think it is necessary. In my travels I've seen lots of steps away from the authentic Italian dish, and in all different directions. They all still call theirs pizza. I think it's just sort of expected that pizza is going to be different from place to place.

America is one of the places that is awesome because we sometimes put thinly-sliced, lovingly charred pineapple rings on our pizza (that's p-i-z-z-a) and we aren't afraid to take a slice in stride while the hungry haters howl.

That goes well with a red sauce and lightly toasting the bread with a dash of olive oil

My gpa and I used to have that together

Yes, pizza can be so many things. I like Provencal/Catalan pizzas a lot, and they're a long way from the original too.

That said, the pizzas I had in Naples in January.... Oooh, they were astonishing. Just a straight Neapolitan margherita, with nothing fancy on it. Just perfect.

We already live in an overly litigious society.
That would actually solve two problems.
It would counter the completely ridiculous idea that banning something solves the underlying problem AND it would serve as a warning label.

Whew, was worried Iceland had lost their freedom.

He recommends seafood for pizza. Can you get the fermented shark on your pizza there?

I'm guessing the pineapple on pizza haters are unaware that baking pineapple on ham has long been a thing.

    and.....?
I put pineapple rings on baked ham myself, usually attaching them with cloves.
I also have the good common sense to remove them before serving someone a ham sandwich.

I've had many different combinations on pizza, but one thing I would NEVER put on it (or anything else) is balut.

When I was a freshman, my fellow dorm residents loved to invite themselves whenever I was going out for a pizza. Often, I only got a fraction of what I'd bought. Then I learned how delicious anchovies were on pizza and had no further portion problems.

    Bob,

You can actually remember when you were a freshman? In my youth (as far as I can remember), He who eats the fastest gets the most.

Balut = fertilized duck egg. Like not waiting for ortolans to grow up.
