Hello, I thought I would share my experience buying and programming a new key fob. I found the chicken dance procedure on this site and it worked without any issues whatsoever. Credit for the procedure goes to USNAVYSTGC and can be found in this thread here:

How to Program a New Key Fob for Full SKS Functionality | PriusChat

At the bottom of the first post, right at the bottom of the procedure it lists two part numbers for the key fobs and the one I needed was OEM Fob Part # for non-smart access is 89070-47180.

I went on eBay and found the cheapest one I could find that claimed to be this part number or this one here:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/193161381900

    It was $43.05 delivered.

I used Procedure A then Procedure C of the linked chicken dance in that order like the procedure says and it worked just fine. If it does not work you need to do the dance faster, when I setup procedure A I was slow in putting in the new key fob it needed to be in like 1 second or so. Took me a few practice runs then 2 tries for A as well as C.

Went to the local locksmith and he cut the key from the old key fob to the new one for 10 bucks out the door.

    Total spent was $53.05

The dealer wanted 180 for the fob, 190 to program it and supposedly needed to use a laser cutter for 130 to cut the key for a total of $500 to do what I just did for 10% of that price.

Thanks to everyone on priuschat this place rocks and there is some amazing knowledge up in here!

    Just thought I would share.

    ;-)

This is great info... I have a 2007 and sounds like this is the best price for a FOB that can be programmed to my car. I think I'm going to have to try this. Do you have any additional information that might be helpful?

Only the tip about procedure A that you need to insert your new fob before it starts flashing which is like 1 or 2 seconds or so, also know that if it keeps on flashing at this step, do it over again. Every time I started over I just exited the car, locked it with the old fob, unlocked it with the old fob and tried again. Procedure C is kind of a lot going on so have the sheet printed out and the steps highlighted I tried like 3 or 4 times before I got the sequence right on C but it also worked like a charm once I got it right. Good luck!

Wow, the rare instance where the above linked and a few others that showed up, are actually less in price. I guess no one made a Youtube video regarding.
