    Hello,
Just last week I bought a
    2013 Prius Plugin w/ 73,000 miles.

Bad news is that it runs really rough sometimes at idle and low RPM.
Im really hoping its something to do with EGR.
I am still waiting to see what work was specifically done before I bought it.
Also wondering if they did the oil change and overfilled the oil, its a Chevrolet dealer.

Did you run a carfax to make sure miles are accurate?

sounds like you might have a head gasket problem, usually occurs at higher mileage though.

Typically it’s the other way around, figure out what work was done then buy.

Yeah I looked at the cafax. It was supposed to be one owner. Im getting a copy of the carfax from the dealer tomorrow, there was supposed to be a copy for my notes but the guy forgot.

Then I found this last night:
(I cant post a link currently but google this vin): "JTDKN3DP4D3032246"
and look for badvin org link
and also went through the Toyota App, and last Toyota maintenance that Toyota has is from 2019. Starting to think its been sitting for a really long time.

    Thanks for any help

probably easier said than done. Tomorrow will be one week.

In all seriousness I have a decent amount of Prius experience. Ive been a lurker for a long time (dont have much to add, you guys are pretty great) and ive owned a 2015 prius as well as driven at least 7-10 other prius through renting for extended periods. Ive seen a thing or two (hehe jk), but its not shaking engine rough or anything, just definitely rough engine idle at certain times and lower RPM roughness. Really hoping maybe it can be worked out in time. Ill Post again tomorrow after I go visit the dealer and find out what has been worked on.

73k is pretty low, but it might just be the egr circuit.
The only thing it’s needed is oil, filters and tires

Needs TLC. Give it a chevron fuel treatment and new engine filter. Clean the MAF sensor as well with CRC maf cleaner.

Take it back. Trust me. I have issues like this with a dealer. If it ain't running right, make them fix it or trade it for another car.

In this electronic age, if you did not run your own Carfax, you may be getting fake documents from scumbag dealerships. Most major dealerships would not risk their reputation, but beware of the smaller no name dealerships.

73k miles should not be any issues on a Prius, I still suspect there is something wrong with the mileage on this car.

I agree with JC! I have 77k on mine and it runs perfect. 47mpg on the highway. I did have the full Monty done at 65k at Hybridpit. Glad I did.

It seems to run fine in the higher RPM, its only in the low RPM/idle. I was getting 48 mpg with 3000 miles on the trip meter and pushed it up to 49. But I mainly do city driving and because of the roughness I think im probably around 38 mpg in the city, more if im conservative with eco ON. Like I said previously I think it sat for a while. I am thinking about taking it to a local Toyota dealer and get a diagnostic.

Wish we had decent places to take hybrids on the east coast. If anyone knows someone, id be interested to let them check it out.

Check out The Car Care Nut video on egr. An easy way to block the egr to verify if it is egr or not. Egr should be closed at low rpm.
