I need to replace both hatchback struts. Does anyone recommend a good online vendor? And, would you purchase original factory parts or any brand, as long as it matches with the toyota part? TIA

I did fully loaded KYBs on my 07 and 09 touring, make sure you order the correct spring rate. on my 13 I unfortunately had to get duralast loaded, and man its a huge difference in quality.. go KYB and never look back.

I think we're talking about the hatchback struts that hold the hatchback up while you're putting in your groceries.

The cheapest hatchback struts in the store will probably outlast the average Gen 2 Prius, unless someone opens the hatch 30 times a day...

AND I think this is yet another case of where wasting your time searching for the absolute "best deal" online, paying shipping and then having to wait for delivery (maybe on a boat from China) and not being positively sure that the right parts will arrive........is just not being realistic.

IF......you take one of them off and visit a local auto parts store, you should be able to get a decent price (compared to OEM), have a part in hand that you KNOW will fit and have an easy way for a return should that be necessary.
ONLINE shopping is good for some things. Not so good for others.

I went to Orielys and replaced all 4 in both our Prii at once. I just bought what was recommended. Has worked well ever since. I never realized how heavy the liftback is until you remove one of the lifters.....WOW. That was an eye opener. Make sure you have a helper and make sure they new ones a clipped in properly so they don't come off.
