2023 Prius Questions Thread: Let's see what I can get answered

I liked gen1, 3 and 5 styling while, I didnt like the gen 2 and 4 so far. While my current PIP is gen 3, running as a champ, will wait for gen 5 to saturate and well proven, only if my current PiP acts on me at that time. Only way I might have bit more aggressive on gen 5 could be, if it had double the range promised on it so far, but thats not the case. A min 100 miles range would be the steal(even for bit more price) but PiP is snail walking towards it. I dont pay premium for anything other than economy, reliability and comfort which my Gen3 is already giving me now.

Probably as good a place as any to mention: the 2023 Prius manuals (Owner's Manual, Warranty and Maintenance Booklet, etcetera) are now available. At least at Toyota Tech Info site. Just google that expression, click on the "manuals" tab, fill in the blanks.

Wow, this is very cool! I wonder if there's a manual like that for the Prius V. Ours came with no hard copy.

Yes, the 2020 is a gen4 Prius. Wikipedia is useful for looking up the generations of car models.
Can't answer question #2, but the gen4 subforums is the best place to find them.

Depends on market. The Prius owner's manual has info on a spare tire, but the US site lists repair kit for all the trims. From photos and illustrations, a dealer or factory spare option looks possible.

Europe is just getting the PHV, and we know less about it. The improved battery packaging should make a spare possible, but it's up to Toyota's spacific plan for the car.

It’s intimidating when the QUICK reference guide is 80 pages long.

 

I noticed in the specs from Toyota's website, the 2023 AWD has a lithium-ion battery now instead of NiMH, so all Prius trims now have lithium-ion?

 

And it is a new lithium battery, though nothing specific stated. Toyota talked about putting solid state batteries into hybrids first, but I don't know why they'd be quiet about it if that is the case here.

More likely Li-ion is just cheaper. Assuming it is a typical Li-ion chemistry. Or production of the bipolar NiMH packs isn't enough for all markets.

Toyota designs the packs to be of similar performance to make using two different types easier in a model. The gen4 got NiMH in all models for Europe, and a few years ago the Rav4 hybrid came with Li-ion instead of NiMH for about half the year. The new Prius could be gatting a different battery elsewhere, or it change for here in the future.

 

The manual warns:
“The traction battery has a limited service life. The lifespan of the hybrid battery can change in accordance with driving style and driving conditions.”
