On the Toyota website the current Prime is marked as starting out at $28,700. Are we expecting it to raise nearly $10,000 in price? Ouch! Chevy Bolt, here I come!

So reading between the lines - you're saying Toyota might of built the 2023 Prius and Prime too low. I'm not sure what the clearance is between ground level and under carriage is, but just looking at the new model it seems really low. Especially in the front end which tells me when you pull into a parking space with a concrete parking block, have fun with the loud scraping noise or possibly bent front frame.

And as you say - over sized speed bumps that want to take out your oil pan among other things.

prime should get a tax credit which should make the price more attractive

Ahh ok. For some reason, I thought the 1st Gen had no heat pump.

Wow. Seems like Canada is getting a decent deal then. XLE AWD is $36.5k CAD (no option for 12.3” screen so you’re stuck with the 8”. Weird for a XLE trim)

Maybe they were banking on the tax credit? But I guess it ran out for Toyota? (Under the Bush rule). New one won’t qualify either right? Ouch.

6.0” is the ground clearance. That’s higher than other sedans (5.5”). The Gen 4 was 5.1” (4.8” for Prime) and the Gen 2/3 were around 5.5” IIRC.

So unless your frame of reference is a SUV, it’s well within a “car” ground clearance specification (and remember, the higher the ground clearance, the less mpg on the highway).

2022 Prime base model is $28,700. When you jump to the XLE and add color upgrade, cat shield etc. as mentioned above things start adding up. With the upgrades to the 2023 Prime I’m assuming price will be higher than 2022 but hopefully not $38K.

Do you think tax credit will come back?
I was referring to the 2022 models being low. The 2023 Prius XLE and LTD supposedly have 6” ground clearance. 2023 LE is lower.

Wish there were more hybrid options.

Expect the same increase between the gen4 and 5 Prius, plus more for an even larger battery.

How did they justify that when the law states North American assembly?

They did delay the minerals requirement for the battery. That's why the Bolt will be getting $7500 for at least a quarter.

Only for leasing. Not for purchase. It has not yet been announced by Treasury. Just a report from the Routers.
And as for the battery sourcing requirement, what I read is that it does not apply to the commercial tax credit for leasing.
Now non-NA built BEV can get a full tax credit on Lease.

Honestly, with the prices of the 2023 Prius, and likely dealer markups, I'll likely be in the market for a used Gen 4 or Prius C. Kind of disappointing...but I'm not paying these prices. And if I do pay a premium, it will likely be for a hybrid Camry. (y)

Got a feeling ICE, Hybrid and EV's prices are going to drop in 2023. Economy will slow, recession will kick in, Fed will continue to raise interest rates and low and behold - Telsa is not meeting production/sales numbers. In other words "Dealers better price all vehicles carefully" or they will sit and sit and sit. Especially if mark up price is out of line.

I also dislike the clear taillights on higher trims. It's pretensive in my opinion.

Red tail lights on the Prius, clear tail lights on the Prime. It's one of the only exterior differences between the two models.

But do they have red turn signals or yellow turn signals?
I prefer yellow as they make more sense.

Probably yellow. I don't think Toyota uses red turn signals at all. I don't like them, as you said. Red turn signals belong to 18-wheeler trailers.
