Thank you for this post. Just purchased an Interstate 26R from Costco for $88, versus the $173 the local Toyota wanted. Perfect fit. Zero modifications. Hold down works perfect. 5 minutes or less to swap out. 2017 Prius four touring.
I went out to my 2017 Prius 3 today and when I tried to start it I got an error message telling me the “startup battery” needed to be replaced. Not that surprised as the door locks were taking a couple seconds to respond lately so I was starting to suspect an issue. The car is 5 years old and does have 98k miles on it so not too bad for a little 12v lead acid battery that’s been faithful all this time. Plus the recent sub zero temps were most likely the final nail in the coffin. I’m a retired electrical engineer and being on a fixed budget I’m learning to pinch pennies until they yelp! I did a lot of research and found that since the battery has been moved from the rear to the front, no reason to buy expensive AGM anymore. Still, it seemed the recommended options were very expensive considering the subtle requirements this little guy needs to support for the car. I mean it’s not like it has to turn over an electric starter for a gas combustion engine, right? Just flip some relays here and there, unlock some doors, initiate some ecms and away we go! That being said, I headed to my trusty Walmart and picked up a Everstart 26R and it was a perfect replacement for a fraction of the price- $59.95
The 26R “used to be” the universal replacement for a top post battery that had failed. Looks like it still has a place on the list at least. LoL
