@Prashanta - was hoping to use a statistic that bolsters EV's - only thing is it actually does the opposite. So - in boxing they call that leading with your chin.

Two similarly-sized Volvo light-duty vehicles are purchased. One ICE, one EV. They were both purchased in Iceland (which I believe has 100% clean geothermal energy.) They were both driven 30,000 miles. The lifetime CO2 emissions of those vehicles (production and the running) will have been the same. Since the electricity is clean, nearly all of the emissions came from the manufacturing of the vehicle in the EV's case.

 

ergo - the 80% lifetime benefit of the EV is a non-issue?
Never mind the fact that CO2 presumes the speaker is talking about man-made CO2 and it's presumed impact on climate change which has been going on for how many tens of thousands of years?
Wouldn't it be better to hang one's hat on an issue that the majority of people around the world find more beneficial when purchasing a vehicle?

Doesn't this just prove, without a doubt, that over the life of the typical vehicle (150K miles, at least, and possibly 200K or 250K) that the EV is drastically better? Seriously. 2 or 3 years of driving to break even and then the next 17-18 years the BEV is superior.

We should stop bickering about the same thing over and over again. Humans impact on the climate is well established. Having higher concentration of heat-trapping gasses in the atmosphere traps more heat. Who'd have thunk?! Why is this concept so hard for some people to accept?

Yes, there's been gradual change in climate throughout the planet's history. Yes, climate is able to change. So it makes sense that humans are able to impact the change. If climate was incapable of changing, there'd be no man-made global warming.

You're not convinced that some gasses can trap heat? Look at this gif. Normal light passes right through the exhaust gas. But look using an infrared camera and you can see that the visibility is severely impacted. Most of the visible light from the sun is able to get through the atmosphere to reach the surface. But with higher concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, less of the infrared light emitted from the planet escapes. When energy in > energy out, warming takes place. Most kids in Grade 5 can comprehend this.

Discussions about how best to reduce CO2 are pertinent. But we're well past discussions about whether man-made global warming exists.
