Georgina please when you try to take over a thread you confuse yourself and others.

They are talking about my short ram intake not your intake.

To answer the question pertaining to my short ram intake, yes it will get warmer air than stock but that is good in the winter anyway.

Im not sure how "warmer" air in the intake is better in the winter? ICE doesnt warm up from the air it's sucking in, driving it does?

    @Pulse07

You were right when you said the air by the inverter will be warm.

This short ram intake will take in warmer air than stock and any other aftermarket intake.

So in the winter as I drive the car and the engine warms up, the coolant in the radiator will get to temp and as I drive the air is getting passed through the radiator and sucked into the intake.

The warmer air helps keep the engine temp normal and easier than if it were colder air causing fuel to be burnt to keep the engine temp.

Plus it is a short ram intake, so much quicker response

Don't be so proprietary, sensitive and insecure You evidently are looking for "yes men" to stroke your ego. Just trying to contribute to the discussion., not taking it over. My emphasis is that the Gen 3 Prius never had a cold air intake from the factory.

Yes Georgina and your intake is NOT a cold air intake.

Never said it was. It just takes the air from the same location as the OEM one.

    In a Prius???
You are kidding yourself, and others?

The only measurable difference between a stock air filter system and these K&N-like filter kits is ......

    The Noise.

That is the only difference. Prove me wrong.

Well there is the difference in maintenance hours spent lovingly cleaning and lubing your 'fine silk' air filter.
Is this time intensive maintenance done in the kitchen sink? Your SO must love that part!

I like to NOT have the hood open on my car.
My other car is an EV. I should open that hood someday.....

I understand everybody should have a hobby.
If you like dikin under the open hood of a Prius,, enjoy yourself!(y)
But have you really improved what the toyota engineers spend all day working on?

Don't get discouraged when people ask if there is anything to all the gee-gaas and doo-dads you added to your car. It's your hobby!

Measuring performance or efficiency improvements to a Prius must be difficult.
Getting identical MPG numbers on a stock Prius is hard, imho.

I don't know the subject, but is a VW TDI a 'ricer'? They can be made to make a lot of power!
Should German cars have a different cute name?:)

I was going for the fuel economy. TDI's back then were close to the Prius.
But the maintenance.... way too much....

OK, I looked at the Engineering Explained guy's video on air filters.
I stand corrected. He saw a 2% increase in HP with a K&N filter in his Sube.
    Can anyone feel that?(n)

Agree; The only measurable difference between a stock air filter system and these K&N-like filter kits is ......

    The Noise.

    Not an issue for me.

Disagree; Well there is the difference in maintenance hours spent lovingly cleaning and lubing your 'fine silk' air filter.

I have two filter elements, I just install the already cleaned and oiled spare. Quickly clean the one removed, let it dry, oil it and store it away as a spare. Not a big bother.

Benefits already noted in previous posts.

Time spent checking under the hood:
None with a BEV. Just numerous hours waiting for the batteries to charge, More hassle waiting for a charger to be free for use. Stuck waiting and arguing with others who hog the charger,

    @Bill Norton

Lets say we each had a 2010 prius.

We are ready to race down a long straightaway.

The only difference is you and I now.
I know with just that I would win.

Now lets factor in what I have done.

    1. Lighter HV battery

    2. Red Bullet vvti solenoid

    3. High Flow Magnaflow catalytic convt

    4. Short ram intake

Now are the two cars the same?

    Would there be a difference?

It's "Different strokes for different folks."

Norton and you are into performance, while I'm into accessibility in cleaning the clutter in the engine compartment, efficiency and ease of maintenance.

Norton will disagree with me on "ease of maintenance," but I can see the condition of the air filter at a glance and repair and maintain it quickly with very little effort. It might not have worked for him, but it works for me,

Azusa's reasons are different than mine. I'm just interested in how it works out. Unlike Azusa, I welcome negative comments and find them very useful. If I find them valid, I will address them. One learns more from mistakes than successes,

From my experience in the aerospace industry, accidents, however unfortunate for the victims, leads to vast improvements in efficiency and safety.

An OCD thing, but I like to keep the appearance stock. Too, it takes about 5~10 minutes to remove air filter box and associated ductwork. And how often do you do this?

I do have a couple of OCC's lurking, but they're down low, below the intake manifold, barely detectable from above. They have taps on the bottom, so it's most practical to access them from below the car, during oil changes.

I look on these bare K&N filters as mostly a show thing, like muffler tips. That's not to denigrate them; it's a thing people like to do. But you're kidding yourself if you're convinced it's going to make a significant difference to a computer controlled Prius' performance.

There's nothing wrong with stock. My set-up is close to stock. The only thing I got rid of is the sound attenuating horn. In that, I agree with Norton.

Installed it today and love how I can get to and replace the water pump and thermostat without removing the air intake now.

Just test drove it up to 75 mph on the city streets.

I did not notice the engine any louder than it was already, I noticed a difference when I installed the Magnaflow cat.

But this is all without hitting the 15 fwy.
Im sure I will notice more then.

Also I did not disconnect the battery to reset ECU's

I never know why those links happen.
I always upload pictures the same and sometimes they show up like that.

Either way it was a close up stock photo.

Also with this SRI you have to peel back the loom and tape to get the harness for the MAF sensor to reach its new location.

I have not retaped the now exposed wire.
I will in the next day or so.

I had to do the same with mine. I used a piece of auto quality black split loom to cover the exposed wires.

Reminds me that Toyota left out the cover on the ECU connector but supplied it on the Lexus. none installed large photo.jpg removing lock.jpg

I have that cover for the ECU along with coolant and inverter.
