2013 Prius Two back up CAMERA REPLACEMENT

I wouldn't assume anything about the backup camera I guess you could measure the voltage going to it when it's on My grounding one probe and checking each other wire individually until you get a voltage reading pretty simple I guess and see what you actually have I wouldn't assume that but maybe they all run on 6 volts Is the assumption I'm not sure and I guess you don't have park assist or factory nav so the Jensen will technically work I'm assuming again that since there's already a cable run for the camera that's there whether it's 12 volts or 100 volts you could use the wiring and change it at the other end from the improper voltage that it might be to the voltage you need I don't see why not and then that way you wouldn't have to run a whole new wire for the camera I'm guessing it uses the yellow type phono plug? I didn't look at the Jensen that close but there are some units that are on the web that are kind of made for the Prius or it puts 9 in in place of the seven that's there now or something like that and for the most part I think you can keep most everything you have I can't remember all the particulars but they come with a cut out and everything that goes right in the Gen 3 and we're pretty reasonable

 

Any new radio head unit will supply 12v for a rear vision camera.

Don't assume anything about the existing camera. Get a voltmeter on there and measure.

 

Do you know where the backup camera connects on a standard rear hatch of a generation 3 Prius? You want to kind of be in that area I think that's easy access to get the wiring in the car and it's a good location I guess you could be on either side of the hatch wouldn't make a big difference usually you kind of want to not try and hide the camera but make sure it doesn't look like it's sticking out like a sore thumb and I think I can't remember how the one worked with my Clarion upper end head unit in my '05 I think the camera had wiring on it and it had to run all the way up to the front of the car and plug into the head unit I don't think it was any other kind of connection I believe it was a yellow phono plug for video and the power in the ground or what have you and that ran all the way from the head unit to the trunk so it came with you know I don't know 12 ft or something of cable it's still laying in the '04 out front as is the head unit I've never taken it out
