I wrote up my impressions late last night after watching only the release video, and have since seen these additional shots, very nice! Also, is that a power hatch button I see down there as well, I believe beside the auto headlights and fuel door release? (Other shots have shown it clearer). I think it may also have the same digital rear view mirror as the RAV Prime, the buttons appear to be on the bottom of the mirror…

This car will (be optionally available) as fully loaded with all the toys I like… nice!

I only can make out the heated steering wheel, windshield wiper deicer buttons on the top. And yeah the power hatch in the bottom row.

Yeah I see the same digital rear view mirror.

Kirk Kreifels' YouTube site has been accessing Japanese sources months ago to gain insights on the Prius. Here is what he believes will be the drivetrain lineup and MPG.

Gen 5 is tempting to replace my 2012 200K miles Prius, but I'm leaning towards EV. Since my wife hit a deer on her 2018 Camry hybrid and replace with Mach E before Ford raises the MSRP. Never think about buying the brand of Ford. My boy took my 2012 Prius to college and still driving good. Never have any issues for 200K miles beside broken volume knob.

I bought a IS500 and sold my Prius 8 months ago.

Today is the first time I've been excited about the Prius in over a decade. I might be back.

How much of a market adjustment did you pay for the IS500?

For Prime owners I don't know if it makes sense to trade in and get this Gen5. Over half of the miles I drive were EV and yet I still have to get the oil changed once a year on what is still a brand new ICE.

This Gen5 is fantastic for those who are moving from a ICE-only or older PHV (5+ years), but for me it would be a step back. I already have a back-up solution for long trips with my Prime vs the BMW i4 we recently got.
Design, style, interiors, look all amazing. Hope they have wireless CarPlay (and reliable!) and still a heads-up display option. Also wondering how the TSS3.0 (if that is what is called) is bringing any significant improvement over current TSS. Also, are we getting the adaptive headlights like in EU for the Prime, now that the laws have been finally brought up to 2022 in the USA?

If they came out with an EV version, I would buy it. Better yet if Toyota came out with a solid-state battery with 600mi range, as I have read/heard they are developing. Instead, no revolution this time for this Gen5 Prius, stuck, in many ways, in the past. Prius is a name that implies "first" - in fuel economy. This time is just another iteration of a paradigm that is not up with the time. They had to update the current Gen4, sure - but this Gen 5 cannot be a replacement for Gen 4 drivers. At least not for me.

PS: Toyota USA website does not even have a picture of the new Prius anywhere to be seen. Maybe in the press-release section which I didn't check, but that's not where buyers go.

PS2: European Toyota websites show a sun-roof that can recharge the battery. Unsurprisingly no mention about performance and range extension using the solar-panel roof. MY24_PRIUS_WP_11-Small-Landscape.jpg

I believe he once had a Model X, and now has other plug ins. Maybe hill needs to update his ride in the profile.

Release of the American info is tonight.

The solar roof was mention in the info for Japan. It may net 2 miles a day.

Many - but since everyone's interests and needs and circumstances are different - but it's not for everyone ..... just as a Prius can't work for many. Choices are what's important.
it doesn't matter what my needs are. Others' needs are right for them. Besides - who wants to sound like LeeJay - always right - always a superior view - contrary views are moronic etc. Eck.
Hypothetically though, someone may trade in there Prius for an ev that can run off their home's solar roof, as we did. Some might need something bigger that plugs in, say like a Chrysler minivan or model y. Some only need a little car, but since the Prius C is no longer in production they'll have to settle for something other. Again, it's good to have choices.

I would never buy a Tesla. Quality control is all over the board and shit at the same time. Reliability is the same. And then you have things like the car likes to explode for no reason, the car likes to unleash itself and kill a bunch of people for no reason, Tesla will deactivate features of the car because you bought the car used and shouldn't have access to those features because you didn't pay for them. Tesla will take a return and sell it as new to you because its only got about a couple hundred miles on it, so it should still be new. And, oh, lets not forget Musk is the biggest douchebag CEO who doesn't like getting his cars or companies trashed by negative reviews, even if they are true. That and a replacement battery costs $20k or more.

If I was gonna buy a BEV, it would be a Toyota. Even then it would be a stretch because I live in an apartment and charging a BEV support is zero right now. I would rather not buy a BEV unless its got range like my Gen4 or the Gen5.

The grey looks better than anything on a 4th Gen Prius. I mean sure, I can think of better colors... But at least it's not white, silver, or black.

Hmmm. Okay. I think the lines look pretty nice. Front end looks great. Rear end is pretty boring. I know that light bar is trendy. BUT, I'm one of those odd balls that thinks a 2019-2022 looks pretty nice. Besides the boring colors.
The grey one they showed looked pretty good. The orange one was okay too. I hate yellow..... Almost as much as white, silver, or black
I wouldn't own a Plug in hybrid if you gave it to me. I'd never hassle with charging a vehicle, unless I could charge it to full while I slept, and it had a 1000 mile range. I'll be doing a lot of 800 mile days every Spring. < That is for fun (road trips, and car camping) but even for work I commonly drive 300-500 miles a day, and no time for charging.
As for the regular Hybrid version, yea, I think I'd like one... But I had no choice to wait, when I bought my 2022 XLE two months ago, and, no regrets LOVE my Prius My 2019 LE was the best car (out of about 8 brand new and 10 used) that I've owned. So when it got stolen and destroyed, I went right back out and bought almost the exact same car. Never really even considered anything else

Toyota's problem right now is to make enough of these cars. SoCal dealers straight up told me that they are adding between 5-10k markup on a Prime on top of the overpriced extras that they put on stickers . Who in their right mind would pay 40k+ for a base model....$&@#+!!!!!

I think I saw that mentioned somewhere. If so, it is likely buried in one of these threads.

Not a 10% increase like many hoping and expecting, but it is the current Eco fuel efficiency, without the design sacrifices, and with better performance.

I didnt pay any markup. But I did have to fly out-of-state to pick it up from the dealership. Most stressful weekend of my life lol.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as they say. My 2010 Prius hood looks "pinched" to me, not that beautiful - but I don't care, because this car has been the best car I've ever owned, most trouble free, best gas mileage, easily customizable, fun to drive, with the back seats down a huge cargo space. Friends are amazed at what fits in it. I camp in it. With a 1kW inverter, I can run a microwave, rice cooker, and even things in the house during power outages. I love passing other cars going uphill on mountain highways, especially knowing that I'm still getting great gas mileage while doing it. And going downhill charges the battery. There's a lot to love about the Prius.

The ground clearance is pretty much the only thing I've been concerned about. But I've learned how to navigate steep driveways and high speed bumps, as well as rutted roads (stay on top of the ruts!). When the snow gets too deep, I just stay home.

The Gen 5 Prius looks very interesting to me. Especially the Prime. But my 2010 still works so well I'll probably just keep it until it dies.
