Just noticed that the coating of the plastic is starting to peel in a few places. Can this be fixed by spraying DIY or will the piece need to be replaced?

Just had fresh snow so the peeling is not visible at present , very odd!

Ah ok. Yeah, fairly common 4th gen issue; it can be popped out "relatively" easy IIRC. You could replace, or respray. If a pro does the painting, maybe replacement would be cheaper?

    Reported btw, mod's will move.

Mine started to peel a couple months after I bought it (a 2016, bought in late 2021). Just today had the replacements delivered. Ordered on ebay, they shipped from Japan. Hopefully be getting to installing them in the next weekend or two. They are around $160 USD for both sides, and you can find a couple videos on youtube on how to do it.

I had the exact same issue on my 2018 Prius Three. The glossy film on the plastic panel was peeling off.

I ordered a replacement panel from the parts department of my local Toyota dealership back in November 2022. Was able to take advantage of an offer going on at the time. The price (before tax) was $86.39. The offer included free shipping, so I had it shipped to my home.

I got busy/lazy and it sat in its box until today. I just installed it 15 minutes ago. It was fairly easy/straightforward thankfully. Carefully popped the old one off, cleaned underneath, and then carefully popped the new one on. The only other thing I had to do was clean off some old adhesive residue and peel the backing off the adhesive section on the new one. It's mostly fastened with clips, but there is one tiny area in the corner where there is an adhesive pad.

Hey there, the same happened to me,the panels are expensive,I vinyl wrapped the panel,it looks like new.

I bought the vinyl on Amazon,I removed the panel(or you can leave it on the car) and do the wrapping,I recommend this method.
