Yes you can go that route but being that our Shop specializes on the Toyota Prii you are leaving many things out which can prolong the life of the car.

    Things such as:

    Fuel injector cleaning
    Inspection of Water Pump
Replacement of several hoses and O rings that simply get reused by may shops

You are paying for the experience and knowledge that our Shop offers

As for the cleaning of those parts, we like to get it done the right way and not the easy way.

Not everybody wants to do their own work or has the tools or place to do it. Removing the egr cooler is an advanced job far from filters and oil changes. To a lesser degree removing the intake is not quite as bad but is still a job for someone with resources.

I know everyone thinks saving dollars and taking many hours to crack the code is cool but many make more money in their own profession. Nevertheless, I agree buying parts, new or otherwise saves you a mechanic's markup. However few mechanics like that customer strategy and most refuse. It is not about buying a boat but more like paying the rent.

Understanding the value a mechanic brings to the table should be easy to understand.

    We do the following:

    Completely disassemble EGR stepper motor

Clean the living crap out of it using an ultrasonic cleaner

    Greased lubricating parts exactly from
    Factory

Test both springs by winding up magnetic collar

    Assemble with care

@ChapmanF's wondering about this "ramp"; it's a plastic material, subject to wear.

It's the stop on the rotor, and it establishes the "step zero" valve-closed position.

When it gets a track mashed through it, the valve has a "step zero" that goes past fully closed, and from then on every commanded valve opening to step n is not open enough, because it just counts up from step zero, and step zero was past closed.

Better yet, just put in a brand new EGR valve.

No mater how one cleans an EGR valve, due to wear and use, it can never be as good as a new one.

The cooler, however, since it is only a metal construction of stainless steel can be brought back to new condition by cleaning.

You're looking at easy to replace components like the water pump and thermostat that cost's about $250, if you replace it yourself. At 100k or more the coolant can be replaced too at the same time.

I'd rather have new components that those that have been inspected.

From what I've seen of its construction, I think it'd be easily good 'nuff for me, as long as it's been cleaned and lubed and confirmed not to have mashed ski-jump syndrome.

I will just be replacing the EGR valve cleaning the EGR cooler, the water pump with thermostat, and possibly the intake manifold with the new version at 150 k miles, sooner if they shown signs of trouble.

In the meantime, I continually monitor the coolant temperatures in both the inverter and the engine, as well as the 12 volt and HV battery with my Scangauge 2.

The Scangauge 2 is a good investment, Scan Gauge 2.JPG

Yes indeed, but we love to give the Customer an option of choice.

It all depends on their budget and preference per job

Preventative maintenance is the key, don’t wait until problems occur.

Recently we had a water pump go out at 80k yes 80k!

Glad you have the Scangauge to monitor the health of your car, it’s a great tool!

The amount of time and effort we take to clean these parts you will be quite surprised.

We take a lot of pride in our work and treat every car like it’s our own.

My father is a retired logistics and maintenance engineer with the aerospace industry specializing in mission critical high life risk systems.

He taught me to purchase wear and easy to replace parts and to keep them readily available for immediate replacement and install.

That way, I purchase genuine Toyota parts at the best prices and keep them on hand for replacement in an hour or less. I just pull them from my spare parts supply and replace them.

Complicated and labor intensive repairs like head gaskets, I leave to the professionals.

It's like spare tires and fire extinguishers. If, like insurance, I never use either, I have the peace of mind if having them without the delay of waiting for any special order to arrive.

Even if I never use these parts, they are a good investment, Due to price inflation, I can resell them and recoup most, if not all my investment or even more.

Is like tools in the toolbox or money in the bank. Having more is better than less.

Unlike car warranties, there are no exclusion clauses for issues not covered, and, if not used, all the cash is still yours, and with money invested, the return might be more.

I like to hold onto my money and spend it smarter, I leave the difficult work for professionals too, that is why I went to Hybrid Pit to get my engine.

I also do DIY work and I go to my storage supply but its callled AutoZone and its always stocked up and follows me from town to town, so my parts are everywhere.

My dad was an Electrical Engineer in the Hotel Industry and taught me to DIY and use your money smarter.

I learned from my grand dad who immigrated from the old country.

I drove a hand me down beater, until I could buy me 2012 Prius v new for cash. Immediately, I started to save for my next car, I just hated paying interest and finance charges. Fortunately, I paid for my spare parts without credit all along the way, and can now even buy a hybrid Lexus for cash, but right now, there is no need.

I know how difficult it is to save. Some months, I only saved 5 dollars. But I still saved. And, any money not paid out in interest, is all saved.

Being stuck in the installment plan with cars is a mug's game. The ONLY thing I've ever bought on time is a house,, and I was REALLY glad to finish off the mortgage.
