New video from Gasketmasters where someone had rolled the miles from at least 250,000 to 80,000 and then traded to a dealer who sold it to unsuspecting buyers at a premium. A scam which has people right here on Priuschat offering how to. Sad. But Gasketmasters, even with some well known detractors here (you know who you are) made it right.
You'd think odo roll-back should be harder these days; things "improve" over the years, right... Rather than more head gasket repair shops, how about if Toyota does the right thing, for a change. Say start with a full acknowledgement of the EGR debacle, and institute a gratis, periodic EGR/intake cleaning service, say every 50K miles.
Incredibly kind gesture by Gasket Masters. How is it possible that a buyer didn’t notice the mileage discrepancy/rollback?
Might have forgotten to do this part: I wonder whether the title for the car at least had "mileage not actual" marked....
The guy said he would blur the faces but the customers said it was not necessary. Gasketmasters simply ran a carfax after they saw the condition of the engine. A common step in a scam procedure is to roll the odo and then retitle the car in another state.
The thing is it's not necessarily the gaskets that are actually fragile though. There are many other factors, a couple of big ones actually. Referencing the video that was pretty cool he is willing to fix cars for free for unfortunate customers, just not sure how virtuous it is to make videos and post your good deeds in a certain manner. The best good deeds are done without announcing it to the world but I digress.
GasketMasters has a Texas shop in Dallas Fort Worth. Excellent team. Unlimited mileage warranty 12, 24, and 36 month options. Machine shop services and engine overhaul lab / cleanroom on site. They’re located on the airfield at Northwest Regional / Aero Valley Airport in Roanoke TX. Cool aircraft in their shop and nearby. Fun to watch the planes work the flight pattern while these guys knocked out my Prius. Aircraft and power plant trained too so you’ll see aircraft engines getting overhauled in their hangar next door. Highly talented team. 1/3 the price of going to the dealership and the warranty speaks for itself.
Authorized Locations | Gasket Masters, Inc. should have checked the OP post date. I just saw a new to me 3 year old GM head gasket repair on a red gen 3 GM youtube 2 days ago. It's another mobile repair done in the taxi yard. Best one I've seen yet.
