This evening I noticed a weird failure mode for the MFD on my 2007 Prius -- Display backlight lights, buttons beep, but regular vehicle status displays (Radio/Climate/Trip Displays, etc) do not display, and screen does not appear to respond to touch after activating climate/radio

Reversing camera takes a bit longer to display when shifting into reverse, but works fine.

Navigation comes up and functions perfectly -- Touchscreen responsive in all areas, overlays for changing A/C temp and Radio volume also display in nav mode.

Once in nav, attempting to go back to climate via button on the side blanks the display for a moment, and then returns to navigation.

Any idea what could cause this type of failure? It's awfully strange to me, and googling hasn't really come up with anything. I've seen stuff for sluggish MFDs and MFDs that straight up die, or have the touchscreen go south, but not something like this.

    Thank you in advance!

All buttons seem responsive, and beep when pressed. Now that I'm in Navi, when I hit Climate, Radio, or Trip, the screen switches briefly to black and then switches back to navi, as if there's no signal on that input.

I'll do some additional poking at the buttons, and see if that could be a problem as well.

Just checked. All buttons appear responsive, and beep when pressed.

The Info, Climate, and Audio beep, and then switch the screen to black for about 5 seconds, and then it switches back to navi.

The Display button beeps, and then switches to black, and then a pattern of lines similar to a test pattern flickers briefly, and then it switches back to Navi.

I'm assuming the different behavior with the "display" button is because it's attempting to pull up an overlay type display to adjust settings.

I also experienced some issues with satnav while testing, and got the "please consult a dealer" message. I removed and reinserted the DVD and that seemed to resolve the problem though.

There could be something in heat related problems, but the temperatures we experienced here weren't out of the ordinary for other places in the southwest, like in Arizona.

    Thank you!
