Is this some rain water drain hose or how? It appears european model does not have. I have also noticed that U.S. model wiper arms are different. Interested to know why is that.

Isn't that 'hose' the electrical wiring for the windshield wiper? I think that's what it is in my US, left-hand drive car.

Is the second photo of a Prius sold in a RHD market where the wiper motor's on the other side?

Edit: ah, if I had read the question, and not just looked at the pictures! :)

Yes, we get the large double-jointed center wiper arm here, which may wipe a slightly larger area of the windshield, and it is interesting that in other markets the wipers aren't just reversed with the double-jointed one on the other side, they use a simple single-pivot arm. Maybe there are different regulations for how much windshield area must be wiped?

The good news is, if you have the model with the single-pivot wipers, the cowl does not extend as far over the engine, and you can replace your spark plugs without all the extra work we have to do.

I have LHD. UK is only RHD country in europe. And i am wondering that is that ”hose” really pwr cord for wipers. Why to wire it that way and not under covers as in my model for instance?

And yes we have those single-pivot arm wipers. Not sure what is the reasoning. Cant say plugs are easy to access though:D All cars i’ve ever owned have had single and large area in passenger side upper corner naturally not reached

p.s. Accidentally posted to Gen 4 section. But i guess everybody noticed that this is about Gen 3

Well, that's what it is, in my US model. It goes up under the cowl cover at that point, and runs along beneath the cover to the wiper motor. Why do they route it that way? Beats me.

Ok, so we've got three flavors: US LHD with the double-jointed wiper, UK RHD with single pivot, and Euro LHD with single pivot. (And apparently Japan is also RHD with single pivots?)

At least we know that the single-pivot RHD wipers allow the spark plugs to be removed without completely removing the wipers and cowl first, the way we have to in US. That gets discussed here every now and then.

Do the LHD single-pivot wipers still have to be removed for access to the spark plugs?

yes, so it seems. Checked few Japan import pictures as well as UK and they all had single. They should have used double for all markets IMO.

embarrassed to say i have not changed plugs myself (yet). They did it at dealership. But it appears that cowling better be removed.
