While Lexus was introducing their new RX, this also happened.

REVEALED: First-Ever 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid - Toyota USA Newsroom

LE trim gets a new 2.0L with 169 HP. Yes this includes the Hatchback and also available AWD. Looks like Europe centric capabilities are coming to North America. About time!
    Updated TSS 3.0 is standard.

Inexplicably, the XLE Hybrid is only available in FWD.

Curiously, there's no Canadian press release for the Corolla Hybrid AWD.

Toyota Canada's Newsroom site doesn't list it under Corolla Hybrid, but this is linked under the Corolla page. It does mention the Hybrid AWD.

This is my first post so I can't include a link to it. It looks like the press release is the same one as the Toyota USA page.

So for minor changes bestcarweb.jp indicated that the 1.2L Turbo and the 1.8L NA (naturally aspirated) engines are going to be dropped from the Corolla lineup, supposedly between October and December. The 1.2L Turbo is an Europe only version that appears in the Corolla and C-HR gas-only cars. The 1.8L is being replaced with the 1.5L NA, though it doesn't specifically state that the 1.5L will replace the 1.8L in hybrid lineup. Toyota Europe already announced fifth generation 1.8L and 2.0L THS systems going in these cars.

Toyota announces the new 2023 Corolla

And yes that includes the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports model which looks sharp and wish we had it here.

■Toyota to abolish 1.2L turbo & 1.8L NA engine, etc. of Corolla series
    [IMG]
The 1.2L turbo and 1.8LNA engines set for the current Corolla sedan, touring, and sports are expected to be abolished at the timing of improvement.
Toyota plans to abolish the 1.2L turbo car of the Corolla series and C-HR, and the 1.8L NA engine car of the Corolla series by the end of the year.

This will be implemented at the timing of minor changes scheduled for early October and December this year. The Corolla series 1.8L NA engine can be switched to a 1.5L NA engine.

The luxury 3.5L V6 is also on the way to being replaced by a 4-cylinder 2.4L turbo hybrid.

Edited to include the bestcarweb.jp scoop info.

    The Corolla is getting a 3.5L V6?!?!

Ohhh.. It's the Alphard V6 being replaced with a 2.4 litre turbo. Not sure why that was included in the Corolla news on the website.

Wow...if the hatchback does, in fact, come to the USA, that's awesome news! It will be on my shortlist for sure.

Still waiting for that Gen5 Prius announcement though before I make any decisions. (y)

As for the Cross Hybrid, I like that too...but " the Corolla Cross Hybrid is fun to drive while having an impressive manufacturer-estimated 37 combined miles per gallon for all grades.".

    I'm sorry...but 37 MPG?! No thanks...sigh.

The 2023 Corolla Hatchback Hybrid will be here around December timeframe, but not the Touring model like they have in Europe.

    I would

If the Toyota Crown can make 38 mpg manufacturer-estimated with it’s 2.5L THS, I’m pretty sure the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid with it’s 2.0L (arguably Toyota’s most efficient engine at 41%) will beat not only it’s manufacturer-estimated 37 mpg but the Crown as well. I’d wait for official announcements from Toyota with EPA since Toyota typically underestimates mpg. Toyota gets 40 mpg (highway) with their 2.0L gas-only Corollas.

Yep...and my 2012 Hyundai Sonata ICE has consistently been getting 35MPG on the highway. The MPG estimates of the Cross/Crown are very, very underwhelming.

I'm fairly certain the Cross is going to be around what Toyota says it is going to be. Not a good sign when they target MPG this low.

Let's hope the 5th Gen Prius will break some new ground on the MPG front...

Here's the final word on the 2023 Corolla Family. This is based on the following price list:

    Model MSRP
    1 2023 Corolla Hatchback SE CVTi-S $22965
    2 2023 Corolla Hatchback XSE CVTi-S $26430
    3 2023 Corolla LE CVTi-S $21550
    4 2023 Corolla SE CVTi-S $23950
    5 2023 Corolla XSE CVTi-S $26700
    6 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE CVT $22800
    7 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE CVT $25200
    8 2023 Corolla Hybrid XLE CVT $26600
    9 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD $24200
    10 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE AWD $26600
    11 2023 GR Corolla Core Grade $35900
    12 2023 GR Corolla Circuit Edition $42900
    13 2023 GR Corolla MORIZO Edition $49900

So as you can see the only Corolla Hybrid is the standard sedan. Instead of the standard LE trim it now comes in 5 trims and now both the LE and SE are available in AWD. The Hatchback is not hybrid which is odd since Europe has the Hybrid Hatchback. Darn. Still awaiting final specs on the Hybrid particularly with AWD. Have to wait for final specs on the Corolla Cross Hybrid if anybody wants a small SUV hybrid.

    Good info!

I second the darn...I was really hoping for a Corolla hybrid hatchback.

I guess I'll just continue my wait for the next gen Prius. (y)

    Sharp looking vehicles.

I have been spoiled by the Prius, Camry Hybrid and Corolla Hybrid gas mileages. Over 50 mpg catches my attention anything less - I just don't know.

It is always a trade off. I think I have said here before I want 4 people and 4 cart golf bags, trash and recycling plus 3 people, room for 6'4" and 360 and 6'5" and 185. Why I have a Rav4 hybrid.

With my back, getting into a sedan is painful. OTOH, my 6" shorter wife much prefers her Avalon hybrid and she gets better MPG.

    Different needs for different folks.
