Did they remove ability to see tire pressure from app?

Here is what I see:

My app version is 2.0.6, and I’m using the Apple SE running 15.4.41, last update on the app was Aug. 11., other than that, my Prius is a 2022 XLE NIGHTSHADE. The tire pressure appears under Vehicle Status. I have had it disappear in the past then suddenly come back (Never get an intelligent answer as to why).

 

I just updated to iOS 15.6, and the tire pressure is still there. So what we need is for some kind soul who has ‘21 LE AWD and is running the app on an Apple phone to chime in and tell us what they are experiencing. The App for the Prime and other vehicles is definitely not the same so we need to start comparing apples to apples (no pun intended).

Hang in there. I experienced the same thing time and time again and when I was just ready to delete the stupid app and ignore it, it quit doing it! Good choice on contacting the dealership (ignoring ignorant suggestions)

Be prepared to pay ~$150 out of your pocket if they find a faulty TPMS sensor and replace it. That is unless you can convince the dealer to take care of the TPMS sensor replacement under warranty. It should be covered by the basic 3yr/36K mile warranty IMHO, but often they will say something like, "it is a part of the tire and not covered by the Toyota warranty". The same TPMS replacement will cost you ~$50 at a local tire shop, although they are not likely to use an OEM sensor.

BTW, how did you "reset" the TPMS warning light? Did you just "initialize" the TPMS via the vehicle setup menu on the MID? I am asking this because I had the TPMS light on my PP yesterday and had to "initialize" the TPMS.


I checked the sensors and tire pressures, they were reading a bit lower than the recommended 35/36, but still all above 30psi. I realized that I just had a 10K Toyota service at a dealer about a month ago. Apparently, they rotated the tires and adjusted the pressure to recommended 35/36. But the TPMS sensors baseline had to be set at higher psi before the service, and the dealer did not re-initialize the TPMS. This must have caused the TPMS warning light to be triggered at 33.4psi.


I inflated tires up to 39/40 psi and initialized the TPMS setting via the vehicle setup menu on MID. The TPMS warning light was turned off. I drove ~40 miles after that, but the warning light did not come back on.

 

For ordinary able-bodied adults, standard bicycle floor pumps are quite sufficient for this function. Mine does the job in about half the time that my old Sears 12V air pump takes, doesn't assault the ears, and doesn't have the problem of re-packing the power cord into a too-small space.

I do recommend using just a standard sized pump meant for road bikes. The larger-barrelled, higher flow, lower pressure models for fat tire bicycles may get too difficult or tiring for smaller humans to reach the necessary automobile pressures. Though bigger humans might prefer their higher speed.

 

Don’t expect a TPMS sensor or any tire gauge that isn’t both expensive and regularly calibrated to be the least bit accurate. Also tire temp will affect pressure greatly. From cold to driving for 15 minutes your pressure goes up quite a bit.

What matters is that they are close to your target PSI when cold and are all within 1-2 psi of each other.

You’re high, or you are talking about going from 40-42 psi. Try filling a 33” or 35” truck tire with a bike pump from 15 to 45 psi after intentionally deflating for traction. Would take an hour or more.

Us adults with paychecks can just spend an extra $40 and get a 12v pump. Too slow? The viar 88 is the cheap one. The 450p will fill a prius tire in about 20 seconds. I have both. The big one is about $300 which is well spent if you go offroading and deflate often. The 88 is more than sufficient and still faster than a bike pump by far for any tire.

 

Who was talking about big trucks? This is a Prius forum. A passenger car.

I retired from the paycheck world a decade ago. Now I'm busy with unpaid volunteer 'work', and recreation.

I've never heard of Prius drivers deflating to 15 psi and doing serious offroading.

These bike pumps can do regular top-ups in a handful of seconds per tire. Flat to full inflation of a Prius tire in about two minutes, or under three minutes on my Subaru. Plenty of 12V pumps are slower.

Of course, the less-than-able-bodied will do better with an electric pump. Or a mobile phone, when the coverage map permits.

 

Some Prius owners have more time than sense.

Some Prius owners have more money than sense.

Some Prius owners have very little money or sense but all the time in the world.

Some live in their cars.

Some own tools and shops and warehouses and big trucks and even with their very able bodies, they are not ever going to use a bike pump to inflate a car tire unless it is absolutely the only option left because they have better things to do and find the thought of it f’n stupid.

It takes all kinds. But, most people, able bodies or not, would benefit from having an $80 compressor in their trunk that is quite reliable and well built.

 

It isn't my problem that a not insignificant number of people are ignorant of, or too averse to manual labor, to understand the range of tools that could work for them.

And at least half those people in ordinary passenger cars would be just fine with a decent $20 bicycle pump. It isn't as hard as numerous nay-sayers try to portray.

 

If convenience isn’t a motivator then perhaps you should sell your Prius, sell your bike pump, and buy a horse. Plenty of manual labor to be had for those morons that need to seek it out!

I’m a contractor. I do not need your advice on how to perform very basic tasks. I also don’t need to find extra stupid things to occupy my time in the name of exercise. It sounds like I do more manual labor than you do all day before 10am.

 

My advice isn't meant for you. It is meant for other readers who may be mislead by you and other detractors who piss on manual pumps as "f’n stupid" or too hard. For very many people, that is just silly.

 

Can you find the screen in the app that has fuel level and odometer reading? That screen for my '22 XLE-AWD-e has "vehicle status" then "see details". This is on I phone 13.
