    Sup team,

Last summer 2021 I cleaned my EGR cooler using NutzAboutBoltz method from his YouTube video. The car had 165k miles. I sprayed it with plenty of carb cleaner and brake cleaner, soaked it overnight with purple power degreaser, then pressure washed it at a car-wash the next day. But, being it was my first time doing an EGR cleaning, I forgot to check if it was thoroughly clean by looking inside if light goes through. Water did go through when I pressured washed it. If my EGR-cooler was only partially cleaned, how long do you guys think it will last before I need to do another cleaning? Will I be good if I wait til next summer 2023?

I just wasn't sure if I cleaned it good.

This could be a really helpful investigation for people who have had the same experience as you. Hopefully you can provide photos and videos once you have time to clean it out again.

Just ask your car for its EGR flow test result and see how it looks. Generally we see a value around 20 to 22 kPa after a full thorough cleaning job. I let mine get down around 10.something before cleaning, though some might clean before that. The 'min' limit where a P0401 code would be set is usually down near 1 kPa.

Are there other diagnostic apps that can perform the EGR flow test? I have Dr Prius, Torque pro, and Carista.

You can buy a min-VCI plug online for cheap and install Toyota Techstream software on an old windows computer to get access to this data. I've yet to read about a phone app that does this, but it is possible.

"Mode 6" diagnostic monitor results are a standard OBD-II feature, and absolutely any scan tool or app that can retrieve those can show you the EGR flow.

How do you like your Carista? It seems like it has limited reporting.
