Hello all, longtime Prius owner here. I’m looking to buy a used Prius C. High miles ok. Deferred maintenance ok. Clean title preferred. I’m in SoCal and will be in LA, inland Empire, and San Diego this week. Plz message me. Ideally looking to spend $10k or less.
    Thanks

    Haha..I think everyone does.

We were able to purchase a 2012 Prius C in July '21 for a pretty stellar deal compared to what we are seeing now. I'm astounded by the $$$ people are getting on *any* Prius these days due to the fuel price issues going on. (y)

Hi all, new Prius C owner | PriusChat

With that said, I'm casually looking for another Prius C to possibly replace one of our other ICE vehicles. Not liking what I'm seeing...ouch! Hopefully the used vehicle market will cool off at some point.

BTW - I ended up finding our Prius C via Craigslist ( see my thread link ). Risky...I know. However, it was a win-win for us and the seller at the time. You might want to check Craigslist to see what is out there.

My 2012 trim 3, alloy wheels, with 159000 miles is not for sale, but out of curiosity I checked it's retail value today and was shocked to see it over $11k. I had looked a year or so ago when it was around 154000 miles and it was $5k. Amazing. Certainly glad they are eliminating the car tax here in RI.

Good luck finding something for $10k or less.

There are some super high mile like 250k+ Prius C’s for $5,000 on auto trader. Totally nasty looking and sitting on black steel wheels. Also some very clean ones pkg 4 for under $10k but have a salvage title, and since this is for my daughter I’m avoiding those. I have until Jan ‘23 so I’ll find the right one, or have to up my budget. I’m looking for one that maybe needs a new big battery or some other heavy maintenance that I can do myself.

i bought my 2017 Prime Advanced used for $24,991 out the door with 19k miles in 2019. I could resell it today for $34,000 with 116,000 miles on it. But hell no, never gonna do that, it got over 600 miles and 65mpg last tank o gas. It’s $6/gal out here in California!
My daughter is currently driving a 2012 Prius plug in that she never plugs in and it gets 47mpg. It has 280k miles and is still going strong. I wanna get the C bc it’s smaller and we have limited parking, but like everyone says Prius C’s are getting pricey. I might have to go with a C Max Energi ;-(

  7. Aside from the obvious cons like no trunk space and less-than-Prime efficiency (yes I know both are plug-ins), the C-Max has, in my opinion, a nicer interior than the Prius line. But I would suggest a lease rather than finance a C Max Energi.

The C-Max does have a nice interior and sits higher up than your average car. Quite a bit roomier in the back, too. I think the Prius C has a more attractive cute and sporty exterior (one of the better looking Prius designs IMO). I almost went with a c-max until I found a great deal on a Prius C right before the market went insane. And I’m glad that’s what I chose because the fuel economy and reliability is way better with the Toyota (and I was coming from a Camry so the transition felt pretty smooth).

That said, if you’re daily driving is typically 10-20 city miles, you might save quite a bit of gas with the energi model if it’s reliable. I would avoid the 2013 model year, unless you want to buy a new transmission at some point.

I think our Prius C looks like a "Mini me" version of our Prius v wagon. They are both white and they really look quite a bit alike when they are together in the driveway. (y)

Unfortunately, our Prius v wagon needs work...and I'd like to replace it at some point. As others have pointer out here...looking at the used car market is depressing. Amazing how *any* hybrid vehicle is hot now when nobody wanted them just a couple years ago. o_O
