I have a 2012 Prius Four and I was just wondering how it calculates “Fuel Cost”. How does the vehicle know the current gas prices? Is this done automatically or am I supposed to input this information manually somewhere? I just bought my first Prius a week ago so I’ve been following the data closely.
It is added manually. When you refuel, it usually pops a message on the MID asking if you wish to add the fuel price.
I have a 2012 Prius as well. Every time you fill in gas and you turn on the Prius, there is a brief few seconds in which you can set the gas price using the steering wheel toggle buttons. Alternatively, you can go through the menus. Setting the gas price is somewhere buried in one of the menus.
I have a Canadian Prius, so gas price is in $ per litre. I simply set it to $1 per litre and the price displayed is the litres burned.
