Hey everyone! Does anyone know what the item number for the OEM 12v battery is? Mine is dying and I've done the overnight charge and still dying. I'm hoping to get the OEM one from Toyota dealer and install it myself.

I don't think you can buy a real OEM battery that came with your PP made by GS Yuasa that is made in Japan, but Toyota USA sells a replacement TrueStart version of the battery. There have been reports by various posters that this battery is in low availability in many locations. You may not find it at your local dealers. Some dealers do not ship wet batteries, and even if they do, it will cost more to ship and you are not getting the core credit back.

    Part Number: 00544H4052470

and a few examples of online dealer sites:

    https://parts.venicetoyota.com/p/Toyota__/Battery-TRUESTART-H4-EN/70043545/00544H4052470.html

You might have a better chance of finding an aftermarket battery either at local shops or online.

Here is a list found in this thread:Prime 2019 dead battery | PriusChat
    Flooded:
    - Super Start Premium Battery Group Size 140R H4 (Made in Austria)
    - Super Start Extreme Battery Group Size 140R H4/LN1 (Made in Austria)
also NAPA BAT75140R (which looks identical to the O'Reilly battery)
    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BAT75140R?impressionRank=1

    AGM:
    - ACDelco Battery Group Size LN1 (Made in Germany)

Still, it is not a very popular size battery, and you may find it difficult to source it. Good luck.

Did you check the electrolyte levels within the battery? Top-off with distilled water; slightly above the plates and try recharging again.

Hope this saves you from buying a new battery.

I've already checked that. Levels are ok. I've got signs of a weak battery since a while .... After 5 years it's just time for a new battery.

Phone the parts department, verify they've got the appropriate battery? Not sure why you need to go in armed with a part number; that's their bread-and-butter. Or should be.

Dealership won't ship them because they're hazardous. I ordered one from a dealer 30 mins away, the site let me go through with the order and offered me frees hipping. Then unilaterally cancelled my order.

Failing and discharging are different things. If it won't hold a charge, that's failed. If it is run down but does hold a recharge, it's still good after the recharge. The 2020 battery is probably fine. Our 2017 battery continues to work well. Probably before next winter I'll put the ACDelco AGM battery in just to be safe. (If any age battery became discharged and froze in cold winter weather, it would be junk. But, not in an L.A. winter.)

The OEM GS Yuasa LN1 battery is not sold as far as I know. Toyota sells the TrueStart H4 Toyota aftermarket battery.

I would recommend the ACDelco AGM LN1 battery over the aftermarket Toyota TrueStart H4 and the OEM Yuasa LN1. It has a higher Ah/RC rating, and it is AGM instead of flooded-cell. You can order it online for cheap:

Thx for the tip. Looks like the ACDelco has a 36 month warranty vs 84 month on Toyota OEM. In my 50 years of driving, the warranty experation period is usually when the battery starts to fail.

You cannot buy a Toyota OEM battery. Toyota only sells Toyota TrueStart aftermarket batteries. They are not the same batteries that come with the vehicle from the factory.

In that case, ACDelco AGM has a 50% longer life than the Toyota TrueStart flooded-cell. The free-replacement warranty period on the Toyota TrueStart is 24 months as opposed to 36 months on the ACDelco AGM. After 24 months, TrueStart has a 60-month two-tiered prorated replacement plan that zeroes out at 24 + 60 = 84 months after the purchase. See the link by @Salamander_King in Post # 2 for details.

Lead acid batteries are very expensive to ship due to the weight. Flooded batteries would need to be shipped dry and the acid electrolyte added at the destination. Expect almost every aftermarket flooded lead acid battery (the common type in most of our cars) to be made in the U.S. There are 3 main U.S. makers--Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls), Exide, and DEKA/East Penn. From the photo I saw of the Toyota TrueStart battery it looks like the distinctive cell caps of Clarios.

I'm sure you're right that Toyota TrueStart is made by Johnson Controls/Clarios.

Flooded-cell batteries are a mature technology with minimal quality difference between brands. AGM batteries are definitely better than flooded-cell batteries on the average, but the quality probably varies more due to the technology being relatively newer.

Looking at Consumer Reports ratings, some AGM batteries are very poorly rated while some excel.

Moreover, flooded-cell batteries seem to have a longer cycle life than AGM batteries. This is probably especially the case if you annually check and top off the electrolyte level.

So, perhaps, stick with a flooded-cell. Nevertheless, I doubt you would go wrong with the ACDelco AGM LN1 either.
