Ok been a few weeks but I said I would post pix of a weld I did using a cheap HF core wire welder. I am not a pro welder but can get by. It's not the prettiest and I did paint over to rust protect but here is an inside virt corner 3 inch long on my trailer rehab
Thanks for remembering! That looks fairly solid considering the nature of the rattle can welder... If I ever stop procrastinating on pulling off the shelf the used Harbor Freight Flux welder i got for $70 I will aspire to make welds good enough as those. And then from there, who knows?
I had a HF flux core welder for about seven or eight years. Used it on some pretty big jobs building a new radio transmitter site in Honduras. The duty cycle forced me to pause and do something else pretty often while it cooled. I think I paid $90 for it back in 2006 or so.
I am having a slight fever issue with mine (this the lump half way down). It looks even better when you know I am left handed was laying horizontal on my left shoulder reaching through a 14 inch hole in the floor to strike the arc
If that's after chipping the slag off, not too bad. Could use a little more penetration- either higher voltage (unless it burns through)or slightly less wire speed while keeping the gun a little closer to the weld pool. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
That's after cleaning. Unfortunately the cheap core welder has high or low setting only (unlike the miller at work lol). Got a stripped tensioner bolt on the wire feed that is messing with my wire speed. I actually keep adding washers to get good thread because I "only need it for a few minutes" so I run wire speed a little fast to make up for when it slips lol. Supposed to rain tomorrow so maybe I will finally fix it.....yea right lol
