    Hello Prius Owners,
I've owned a 2012 Prius Plug-in since I bought it from a friend in 2013 and I'm looking to get another one. I want to get new, not used and I hear there is a waiting list.
I've talked to two local dealers and they say to come in and let them talk me into used or something else..... ( my thoughts on what I heard from them).
I've read some comments during research where Toyota won't let you order a new factory to direct build, so what are these waiting lists and how do you get on them?

You mean, besides putting down a deposit for one at a dealership of your choosing? I've never heard of any customer waiting list directly with corporate that bypasses the dealership.

I replied in the other thread, where you posted the same question, and has a LOT of relevant information.

All, before we start spreading incorrect information, much of which is likely from many scum dealerships and salespeople, please read the thread that I posted the link to above.
    And watch the videos.

    I fully understand the confusion.
I have also been told some Wild Complete and Total BS/Lies from many Toyota dealerships.
    Sigh.............

I agree with the YAA youtube channel, the American dealership model is on it's way out, especially after how many/most dealerships acted during the Pandemic,
And, with Musk being the trail-blazer for having a successful "pay MSRP price - period" model (no markups, no "deals for just some people", and so one.
It's a retail purchase. Just like buying Kleenex from Walmart. Here's the price for this product.
Very simple, very honest, no BS!

Note that GM's short-lived Saturn division was the same way. They had many "decent/good" cars, with respect to any GM Vehicle. However, they were still typical GM vehicles, with often pathetic reliability.

TBH. If dealers don’t order what you want and sway you towards what they want to sell you then I won’t deal with them.
I once went to a dealership and requested a “15 inch wheel excel in blue” and they tried to fob me off with a “17 inch wheel bus edition in red”. Go figure. Needles to say they didn’t get my business.

For everybody except Tesla, you will have to go through a dealer at some point. The manufacturer has a build function on their site, but for the final step, you get handed off to a local dealer. Now, some manufacturers, for certain models, will put pressure on those dealers to keep them from their usually shenanigans. But at the end of the day, there is no direct buying from the factory for a car in the US.
