Hey Prius peeps, having a bit of an issue with my fuel tank. I have a 2008 and it usually gets around 46-48 so I’m happy with that.

Problem I have is the tank. I know the fuel tank/level reset procedure and it does not seem to work very well or for very long. Best I get in there is 8.5 gallons.

is there a best time to do the reset? Full tank, empty tank? Or do I have to do it multiple times each reset?

How much do you want to get in? 8.5 gallons is not abnormal for a typical Gen 2 to go from flashing dot to full.
Do you want the flashing dot to represent 1 drop of gas in the tank?

8.5 gallons is about 400 miles of range at your quoted mpg, which seems pretty good range. Do you often drive longer distances than that?

When I do the reset, it goes up to about 8ish. Then it can go as low as about 6.5. If I’m lucky it’ll stay at about 8 for a month or so, then will slowly go down

~8.5 is all I get as well. Isn't that normal? The tank size is 11.9 gal, adding two gallons for reserve, that's 9.9 you can theoretically get when the fuel light comes on.

I assume because of the bladder, I usually get 8 in the winter and closer to 10 in the summer. I've reset the fuel tank a few times and I'm fine with the results. Good luck, OP

Reason I ask is in my previous ‘05 I only had to reset a few times and it stayed consistent. My ‘08 is just a little more random about the tank.
