Toyota next? No charging cable. Tesla will stop providing with new car purchase. Kia EV6 also does not come with charging cable. Screenshot_20220417-200043_Twitter.jpeg Screenshot_20220417-200024_Twitter.jpeg

i wouldn't put it past any carmaker if they think they can get away with it.

but i doubt it with prime. L1 works fine with a standard plug, and they have no charging infrastructure

It is inevitable. In fact, it is about to begin. bZ4X will come with a level-2 from Toyota Canada.

If you want a level-1 to carry in the vehicle as a backup/opportunity device, you have to purchase one yourself.

So what exactly is the "charging cable"? Level 1 stuff includes a standard 120V power cord, an EVSE, and a J1772 cable with plug. Which of these things is the "charging cable"?

This is what Toyota (and I) call a charging cable. Screenshot_20220418-144526_Drive.jpeg

Both the computer & phone industries were on that course for decades. The same thing is playing out now with the auto industry... only the cost is higher and the waste more significant.

I didn't hear it. I said it. That is my observation. Having watched adapters in tower computers evolve to USB-PD, observing all of the standard upgrades & consumer challenges play out every step of the way, that pattern is easily recognizable.

You said the bZ4X will "come with a level-2 in Canada". Where did you get that information?

Alright but since the only ones that come with a level-2 ready EVSE is the LEAF and Tesla vehicles (When they supplied adapters), you may wanna cross reference that before posting.

Toyota Canada likely will only supply a L1 cord (same one as in the Prius Prime or RAV4 Prime).

Very much not like the not certified by any lab L1 to L2 adapter conversions. ;)

Regardless of whether or not it is included, at least there is a standard connection for L1 and L2. Meanwhile, the EU is pushing USB-C beyond just smartphones & tablets. They are pushing for laptops, handheld gaming consoles, cameras, and more to now all only be USB-C. With the PD spec expected to be raised from 100 to 240 watts, that makes sense. Why would you bother with something propriety?

That begs the question of what's happening in the United States with Tesla still. A few years ago, the EU forced Tesla to adopt CCS. Why is Tesla refusing to adopt the standard here?

Man, USB-c can be such a royal pain when the TINY socket of plug pins get out of align or a spec of dirt between them. I recommend wireless over using the plug whenever possible because of that issue with the connection.

L1 only. Stop saying L2 will be included.
