Anyone here swapped engines from 2019 prius. I want to do a swap and was wondering if it compatible with the gen 3 prius. I know we have to use old damper and egr.

Hey there. Does anyone have any experience with wire harnesses ? I just did the swap and everything seemed to go smooth until I went to fire it up. It turned over for like 7 seconds and then just stopped. I kept resetting the car thinking that it may adjust but every time it just read check hybrid system. So I used an OBD2 reader generic and I got cam sensor, temp , knock , maf , and water pump sensor . Since all are to the left of the wire harness I suspected there may be where I should look but found nothing. I ordered a mini VCI cable to use tech stream . At this point I’m tempted to Take the head off my old engine machine in and throw it back in the car. Did someone here use the gen head on the gen 4 block? I wonder they did when it came to the head gasket? Gen 4 or 3 head gasket. I saw the water jackets were different.

I swapped my 2010 with 2016 engine. I didnt take it apart. Straight swap except the egr and damper.
My in laws bought a prius v wagon and wants to do engine swap since it has cylinder 1 misfire. But 2016-17 engines have high mileage than 2019-2020
In theory it should work but i want to be 100 percent confirm on fitment.

Plumbing is different on the gen 4. I would clear all the codes and test again. if it says cam sensor then you likely jumped some teeth on the chain.

i found a 2019 engine and in their firment guide it does show it fits 16-18 prius so my guess is it might fit but i am only 95% confirmed. I would have to look in person.

let me know what you think tho

The head gasket is exactly the same.

I checked the timing and the colored links lined up perfectly. I’m trying to activate this tech stream software but I need an a code. Anyone have it ? I think this software Will help a lot . I’ve worked on cars for years and it’s never been this confusing. How do you clear the codes?

Not the same, part numbers are different per Gen

Did you pick up the appropriate cable already?
Many will clear by disconnecting the 12v battery for a short period of time.

The Gen 3 gasket sandwiched between the Gen 3 head and Gen 4 block in the car I just sold hasnt had an issue in the last 4 years. The part number may have changed, but the holes all matched up.

Yes I got the cable and downloaded speed tech but it needs a code. And the other versions I downloaded say they don’t but they aren’t working either. I have a win10. And win 7 computer. Does anyone have a version I get they know works. I’m going hate to take this engine back out. Helll I’ll have spent 1700 bucks for a block if I just swap the head. Or I could just redo my old head throw it back in there

Wish I can agree, but there are several ports that are blocked up using the Gen 3 gasket on a Gen 4 block.

Now, since I don’t have the car anymore, or a Gen 4 head to test with. Would the Gen 4 gasket on the bottom of the head of a Gen 3 show places where there need not be an opening thru the gasket?

Very good question! Gen 4 block has extra
Cooling ports that do not match up with Gen 3 head. As for efficiency it’s best to keep with the Gen 4 head and block.

We do have a Customer that has a Gen 4 block with a Gen 3 head and she is running fine for a good 3 years now. This using a 3rd Gen head gasket!

I dont know if you got an answer yet but yes a 19 engine will work. My 2010 has a 2020 engine.

No I haven’t got the answer. I just bought 2019 one to see if it fits. It came today so will swap soon. Thanks for the answer, nice to know that 2020 will fit too as 2016-18 are almost extinct (low miles one)
