I know this topic has been discussed, but as much as I like this car, the road noise is really bothersome. I'm looking at options of new tires, sound deadening of either wheel wells, floor, etc. I'd like to hear from those of you who might have done some of this and what gave you the most bang for the buck?

My son-in-law had sound deadening installed under his carpeting in a Gen2 Prius. It made a noticeable improvement in the road/engine noise, but not a significant one. I measured the difference between his and my 2004 Prius (no sound deadening material) at about 4 dB.

IIRC 4th gen is supposed to be a little better than the previous gen's.

It's all relative to what you're used to. My gen4 Prius is significantly quieter than my previous vehicle (a Hyundai Accent).

Question: is the Limited trim quieter than the other trims? Is road noise still an issue on that tri?

No question. The 2016 and 2019 both drive quieter and more responsive than a gen 1 or 2 or 3

I can compare my '21 Limited to a '11 trim 3 and say it is much quieter. I noticed this on the test drive. It is such a subjective area though. I have a moderate hearing loss corrected with hearing aids so I'm a little more sensitive. And infrastructure improvements in my state, road work in particular, is proceeding at a rapid enough pace to eliminate most of the washboards I've been driving over. Tire quality and age, and inflation pressure can make a difference too. If it's a really bad road I do the Click and Clack thing and turn up the stereo.

I put sound deadener on the trunk floor. While I do believe it changed the car's sound, I don't believe it was worth the effort.

Yeah but a Corolla of the same generation as the Gen 3 is quieter than the Gen 3. I haven't sat in the latest Corolla vs. the Gen 4 but I'd imagine it's at least as quiet, if not better than the Prius. That was my complaint with the Gen 3.

It is. The Limited gets acoustic front door glass (double pane) vs. regular windows on the LE and XLE.

My 2016 is much quieter than my previous Mazda 3. It's all relative to what you're used to.
