My 2015 Prius (purchased new) has 38,355 miles. More Highway than city miles. I’ve had the coolant changed, transmission fluid changed. I plan on having the differential and brake fluid changed at the next oil change. Since it’s 7 years old should I have the EGR cleaned? Is there any additional maintenance you would recommend?
There is no differential. Others my not agree but I would wait until AT LEAST 75k miles to clean the egr. And if you do I hope you know a shop that will do it (or do it yourself) because it isn't a scheduled maintenance, so Toyota doesn't clean egrs. I have a 2015 also and I plan to do mine at 100k. I'm at 78k right now, so in about 2 years. At 38K you shouldn't need much of anything done yet. Maybe think about having your 12v battery checked.
Manual says to check coolant every 15,000 miles. There is no scheduled changing the coolant. All fluids need to be checked every 5,000. There is no schedule for changing tranny fluid. I have the oil changed every 10,000 [synthetic only]. My 2011 is at 185,000.
follow the time schedule, not miles in your booklet. 15 was the best year. i agree with better golf, 75k is fine for cleaning the egr. there is a method to crack the pipe open and take a peak if you're interested. brake fluid every 3 years doesn't hurt, but with no toyota recommendation, it's hard to know. and nv being a dry area, brake fluid lasts longer. clean and inspect the brakes, and lube the slide pins. get a free 12v load test at an auto parts store. inspect the tire sidewalls for dry rot cracking.
Thanks for the information! I’m a preventive maintenance nut. In my mind fluids have a life and that’s why I ask what schedule others might use. Also thanks for the advice on EGR cleaning.
There's no separate differential; the car has a 'transaxle', which is a transmission, final drive, and differential, contained in a single case. So there's no separate differential fluid change; when you change the transaxle fluid, that takes care of it. The car turns corners, so there is a differential in there.
