Ford maverick - Anyone else skeptical about Ford's "40 MPG in the city" claim?

yuuuuup, I've been watching for a prius plug in battery to pop up so I can snag it and possibly have a bigger place to dump my regen

I'm very interested in seeing what the Maverick does as far as sales and longevity. if the city folks were honest about pickups, they would admit they really don't need 500hp beasts that weigh 6500 pounds, just to commute in... but macho sells a lot of stuff

you're probably right about the phev being the one to shoot for...

the only thing that concerns me about this truck is,,,, it might eat up some f150 potential buyers. if that happens, I expect to see the Maverick be absolutely dead in less than 5 years. the f150 is King in Ford's list of things to never disrupt...

they're very smart for doing so.

Chevy is still trying to figure out hope to make diesels that will actually start instead of "error code: non start issue" lol

the reviews of the Maverick are all very positive, I hope it takes off and we see a slew of battery capable camping trucks very soon from Honda, Toyota, Ford, etc

all the govt agencies are in "super ultra wasteful+ delay mode" right now. they're doing everything possible to slow down the economy and cost taxpayers profits, in every way possible.

the busses in cities are operating at 3x the number of busses needed with 10% occupancy...

offices drag their feet like it's cold war Russia for permitting

all under the guise of "it's because of the Rona" ... meanwhile the rest of the country is waiting for parts and gotta to finally reach them, so they can sell and ship to customers.

this whole thing stinks of govt slow down for the sake of claiming a victory in shipping when they finally let go and let capitalism MOVE again

They can sell as many as they can make ... which isn't many. Wait times are approaching Tesla's and dealers are adding profit on top of MSRP. And the focus is using the parts they have on the higher priced models, just as all the manufacturers are doing.

    I'm getting 38-40 MPG in a '19 Rav4h with 18k. YMMV.

In late June, we pre-ordered a loaded up top of the line model Lariat hybrid edition. Besides getting exactly what we wanted down to the color, I thought this would also get us (close) to the front of the line. Nope. Plenty of base model XL and XLT (in Ford speak) being delivered along with the loaded versions.

One delay issue is spray in bedliner. Seems one factory here in Texas made a critical item in the formula and is still behind/delayed due to the snowmeggadon back in January. Another was specific factory accessory wheels on special editions. So, the hold can be for one item that affects most or all models or only very specific units. What a nightmare for the logistics folks.

Ford vehemently denies that there are any holds at this point, bedliner issue ended a week ago.

Per the insiders Ford is in LRIP for the Maverick similar to the Bronco fiasco that is stretching into years
they are in production but very slowly and my guess CARB, high volume dealers, etc are getting favorable order priority numbers.

if you haven’t already place another order with another dealer, some recent orders have been scheduled faster

They are a step behind Toyota on this. The last gen Rav4 hybrid was low 30's in highway mpg, got better with the current gen, now 38 mpg. Since trucks tend to be used around work places, ranches, etc, the great "city" mpg will be attractive to a lot of people, especially at that price point.

I missed it by this >-< much. :p

I (basically) said the same the same thing when the v was introduced. If it’s mainly being used for high speed driving, a truck is probably the wrong type of vehicle. But that doesn’t stop the majority of truck buyers.......

Via forum traffic, I’ve noticed a lot of “other” hybrid owners are very attracted to it.

Need the aero topper to bump up that mediocre highway economy

They aren't. The Escape hybrid, FWD and AWD, is rated 37mpg on the highway. A pick up bed is literally a huge drag on aerodynamics, which brings down the Maverick's highway rating.

    I agree...to a certain extent.

This was generally true when we had 'cheap' fuel pricing. However, with rising fuel prices, I'm already seeing fewer large 'land yacht' trucks/SUVs on the road. So some diehard truck folks are starting to crack under the pressure. :ROFLMAO: On the bright side, maybe some of the 'land yacht' folks will migrate to the hybrid Maverick. (y)

I agree. The hybrid Maverick EPA is actually quite a bit better than I anticipated. But yeah...a pickup truck going down the highway is basically a square box hitting a wall of air. Not much you can do to tweak the aerodynamics. So it certainly makes sense.

As @Rmay635703 said, I wonder if/how much a bed topper would improve highway MPG?

A tonneau cover can help a lot.

The soon-to-be-released cybertruck supposedly has a drag coefficient of around 0.48. For a pickup truck? That's way ahead of the field.
    Is the Tesla Cybertruck aerodynamic?

.... that said, each year and each manufacturers models get better over the years

The Kei truck is the exact type I want. The things my wife likes to buy and haul are not good for my prius hatchback. Room isn't the issue. Avoiding damage to the interior is the problem.

Spotted three in the past couple of weeks. The one in a parking lot was an AWD non-hybrid though.

I'm seeing 3-4 of the Mavericks daily now. apparently people really like pickups that get Camry-like fuel efficiency.

can't wait for my buddies to have their f150 hybrids delivered. those things are going to name bringing generators to camp a thing of the past!

I love the concept of the hybrids and I'm a diehard Ford fan, but I don't see those generators being useful for camping regularly.

I regularly boondock with campers and could not imagine running a V6 engine just to charge my batteries make a pot of coffee. The little, quiet, generators that run for 8 hours on one gallon of fuel are still the solution for that. I think only solar + lithium battery banks will be suitable replacements in the future.

For occasional use? Sure they're awesome. Curious how much fuel they burn compared to dedicated generators...

Buddy has a F150 hybrid and unfortunately he isn't impressed at all with the MPG. He's getting substantially under the EPA in nearly all conditions.
