Excluding CarMax - it's not that they're national, it's that they're VC-backed companies and don't have to make a profit. They're start-ups and more on the tech side than on the used car dealership side of businesses. The only way I can see Carvana making money, is via financing. People too lazy/dumb/etc to get 1.25% via DCU b/c the Carvana app makes it so much easier to "buy online".

When I sold a Prime to them last year, it was marked up less than $900 - that had to cover picking it up, cleaning it, posting it for sale, etc and all the employees required to do that. There was 0 profit in the actual sale price. Crazy business model and I don't see 80% of these .com car dealers around in a couple years.

I thought on their website they said you can get it appraised online? It would the the same price if you did it either way.

When I recently checked my PP on CarMax, after entering the details, it said something about it being a rare car so they need to see it in person. It had no trouble with my Volvo.

Yes, that is what happened to me as well. I'm guessing they are going to come in low.

I actually found a dealership in Maine that has RAV4 Prime they are willing to sell at MSRP. I told them I want to register it in DE. I have a friend who lives in Maine not too far from the dealership so I could actually make that deal work, fly and drive. I'm thinking about it, but not getting my hopes up as the salesperson said they would go over it with the GM and get back to me. Probably pull the old "out of market area" again.

I ordered my 2022 Prius Prime Limited Blue Magnetism from Toyota on Saturday. It will be at MSRP or less minus the rebates and credits. $500 fully refundable deposit on credit card. ETA: 3–6+ months. I hope it will arrive before the $4502 federal tax credit is reduced to $2251 on July 1, 2022.

    Congrats!

Also, very good timing in making the deal.
    It was just announced:

Toyota shuts down all Japanese production after supplier is hacked
The halt affects 14 factories, a third of Toyota's global production.
    Feb 28, 2022
The world's largest automaker is suspending production at a third of its factories, according to Reuters. Toyota says it will temporarily stop making cars at its Japanese factories after one of its suppliers was hacked.

The company in question is called Kojima Industries, which makes composite and plastic parts for Toyota, both for car interiors and also parts for Toyota's hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles. Reuters quotes a Toyota spokesperson who described the event as a "supplier system failure."

Consequently, on March 1, Toyota will halt 28 production lines at 14 factories across Japan.
    =======

Fingers crossed you get your car before the rebate gets cut in half. Still, an ~$2,200 rebate isn't too bad.

Just put a deposit down on a white 22 limited. $750 below MSRP with the Uber driver discount (still waiting for them to verify it will apply...but if they give me a hard time I'll go to Toyota corporate again like I did last year). But this is on the lot today, they had a deal fall though and called me this morning.

So they're asking MSRP and you're getting $750 Uber? Or they are offering $750 below MSRP?

Sorry - it actually looks like this for clarity
    MSRP
    +1500 out of state
    -1500 toyota cash
    -750 uber
    -------
    MSRP - 750

Ouch! So basically not even getting the Toyota factory incentive. They are adding on $1500 because you are out of state? This is just markup as far as I am concerned. I'm running into the same problem here. I live in a small state with no availability so I have to go out of state just to find a car, and they want to charge me more. I'm getting emails left and right that the car I was interested in has sold. At this point I may just go pre-owned and wait it out. I was hoping to get in on the Fed. tax credit before it's gone but I may have missed the boat.

Did you trade in or are you selling yourself?

Exactly.. but having made tons of inquiries i know what is out there (or is not out there) and 1500 is among the lowest markup.. I figured at least the Customer Cash was offsetting the markup. I plan to sell my car to Vroom (30,200) so I made roughly 4k on it so I am not really going to be too upset at paying $750 less than MSRP in this environment and having the car..exactly what I want in the next 2 weeks.

Please do tell about this 1500 customer cash. My gf is at the dealer and possibly about to buy a 2022 PP. I don't see the incentive for the Prime on the toyota website, only Recent grad and Military.

    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

Was waiting for approval, so no big deal.

She passed because they wanted $2000 extra for the PP and were only offering her $5000 under the KBB for her trade.

To those looking. Check out or call up Alderman Toyota or Faiths Toyota in Vermont. They do not charge markups and will sell to out of state buyers.

The $1500 cash back for PP is only in select markets.
It was in MA, ME, NH, RI, VT in the Northeast in the recent past.
But with the new specials for March 2022, they added Central Atlantic
such as DE, MD, PA, VA, WV

There may be more markets, but those are the only ones I am aware atm.
