I got a dealer estimate today for a 2022 limited. Otd with 7% Indiana tax $36,100. That is after 1500 customer cash and 750 uber incentive.
I can get nearly 30k from vroom today for my 21 xle. So basically would be 1600 to upgrade to the limited and 9k less miles. I think I'm crazy if I don't do it. Most dealers either have no stock or are charging market adjustments.


The magnetic gray isn't my first choice or second I fear it'll be too dark for my liking of keeping a very clean car. But I figure it can't be too different than my blue magnetism. I may put the deposit down while I continue to look.

Yeah, we've got some real first world problems over here.

I contacted a dealer in MA about a RAV4 Prime they have listed for sticker price, they replied that it's only available for local market customers and they won't sell it to someone outside of New England...shucks. I can't say I blame them seeing as they lose all the money they would make on the back end in service and repeat sales. Looks like it's back to searching for Prius Prime at MSRP as it's probably going to be an easier find. I'm also not apposed to buying used if I find a good deal, but that's not very likely.

I'm actually thinking of downgrading to the LE as I find the giant screen useless, and would actually gain Android Auto and save a few bucks. If I trade in the 2021 XLE, I'll be in the new one for about $14k after tax credits.

 

I thought about the le myself..but the features of the limited are calling me... bsm, cross traffic, upgraded speakers, heads up display, front parking sensor assist, and auto dim rear view mirror are all things I would really like. I can move to the limited for about 2500 delivered to my door... but I get 9000 less miles and many more features

Just curious, why would you even consider buying used PP? There is no tax credit, no rebate, and it is priced higher than a new car now. Even at MSRP, PP is not going to be a great buy without rebate and tax credit, I would think.

I don't have a problem finding a PP at MSRP with no markup in my area, but even with a full $4500 tax credit, the current $1500 cashback is too small to make the swap of my 2021 PP Ltd to a 2022 PP profitable. Yeah, I will make ~$6K gain on my 2021 PP if I sell it to an online used car buyer, but I will not get that high price on a trade-in at a local dealer. That means no sales tax discount on the new purchase. After paying short-term capital gain tax on the $6K profit and paying full sales tax on a new car, I found trading in 2021PP to a 2022PP is not going to be profitable. And I would end up with the same old boring car that I have had for the last 5 years. I'd much rather spend more money to switch my 2021 PP to a BEV and get a full $7500 tax credit. Or change to Rav4Prime. But Rav4Prime compared to keeping the current PP is not going to be either economical (cost more to buy and operate) or ecological (use more gas than PP). I would love to get bZ4x but the timing is off. A full tax credit will run out before it is out. For that reason, I put a reservation for the Subaru Solterra. No warry on the tax credit running out, but it will be very limited production. If I can't get Solterra, I may settle with a Leaf SV and keep a check. It is the only BEV that I can get paid to trade in my 2021 PP for it.

 

I'm with you. But also I do not like buying first model years of cars or when a model is completely redesigned. Just a thing I have. So I personally figure upgrade to the limited prime for now, reap benefit of tax credit and high used market..watch the bz4x and solterra see how they do. Hopefully things retreat back towards normal and I can see where the market is in a year. At which time my 22 prime limited (if I upgrade) would be paid off with only about 12k miles and I could consider options...if I wanted a tax credit obviously I'd have to look at the solterra. But yeah

 

Probably not a used PP, but another used car if I could find a deal, which is highly unlikely in this market. I feel the best move is a R4P if you can find one at around MSRP. Bigger tax credit on a vehicle that, once the credit expires for Toyota, will be a hot commodity on the used car market. Otherwise take advantage of the PP tax credit and $1500 man. rebate and probably still have a pretty good residual value in a year or so.

Exactly. I don't think I'm ready for 100% BEV just yet. Would like to see how some of the new EVs do over the next year or so, let them work out the kinks and have someone else be the guinea pig. I believe we a still a few years away from having BEVs that just make more sense than owning an ICE vehicle.

 

In my area right now, it is easier to find and buy Rav4Prime than a PriusPrime. Most dealers I checked do sell Rav4Prime at MSRP. I almost pulled the trigger but decided not to. The price range of Rav4Prime is in line with most of the new compact SUV BEVs I want, namely bZ4x, Solterra, Kia EV6, and MachE. So, I will have to pay out of pocket ($13K-$16K depending on the trim) on top of trading in my PP to purchase. Even after receiving the full $7500 tax credit next year, I would have paid $6.5-$9.5K more for my daily driver. And the worst part is that the operational cost of Rav4Prime will be almost double of the current PP including fuel (gas and electricity), annual excise tax, and insurance. The Rav4Prime costs more and uses more gas than PP. Not a better choice of car for a daily driver.

The markups down here are ridiculous. I feel like I could drive the thing off the lot and sell it for an instant profit. That's kind of my thing, I think the R4P is a great vehicle that bridges the gap between regular car and full BEV while not having to make the sacrifices most people are not willing to make to drive an ultra efficient PP. For me personally, I don't need a R4P and my current PP suits our needs just fine, especially as I have other vehicles I can use when I need to do more utilitarian things. That said, I feel that I would get to drive the R4P for a year or so and make money on the deal and trade it in on a full BEV when the time comes. I'm just not sure the PP will hold it's value as well, given the historically low $1500 factory rebate and lower tax credit. Also, in my home state I get a $1000 grant for the PP and $2500 for the R4P. Yes, a higher cost of ownership overall with the R4P but I feel I would get more EV driving with the extended range, and I don't drive a huge amount so it's not something I'm overly concerned about.

 

I'm sorry but I don't understand your math. 36,100 - 30,000 is 6,100, not 1,600. Is there a typo somewhere, or did I just make your decision easier?

@eliteconcept, it was a huge upgrade from the 2020 Prius Prime XLE to the 2021 Prius Prime Limited for me—lots of extra safety and convenience features coming with Limited and a better-functioning LKA coming with TSS 2.0.

 

I think I'm going to do it. I'm not gaga over the magnetic gray...but I'm not gaga over the blue magnetism either. I prefer white or silver...but I can keep looking with a deposit down on the magnetic gray

 

Just went into Holman today, put a deposit on an LE at MSRP.

They've earned my business for life for being seemingly the only dealership in South Jersey not price gouging.

 

You would only appreciate what a great shade of blue/green Blue Magnetism is after you own the car. It is very brightly reflective thanks to white paint mixed in it, adding greatly to the visibility, and it looks very sporty, gaining you a lot of respect on the road.

The white looks great, too, but it's not as spectacular as the blue/green—it would be a distant second choice for me after owning the blue/green. Silver/light gray, which is the color of the pavement, looks cheap—that was my 2020 XLE. Dark gray—meh... Light colors (white, silver, beige/pink, and blue/green) will require less maintenance.

 

The shortage of Priuses and especially Prius Primes is being caused by the high gas prices, not the supply-chain problems, now. Everyone is looking for the highest mpg or an affordable EV at the moment. The gas prices here will probably hit $10 a gallon if not more soon with Putin's invasion of Ukraine. At least, the traffic will get lighter.

 

I have the blue magnetism now. It's a nice color. Buy it's just not my style in think. My wife loves it.. and it would be a great color for her crv. I loved my blizzard white prius the most.
