I have a 2005 Prius, replace the batteries with new Prius batteries about 8 months ago, and wrecked it about 5 months later. My question is are the batteries still good, I'm looking to buy another Gen 2 so that I can use the batteries if I need to. Is there anything I should do to prolong the life of the batteries, and any ideas on how to find a Gen 2 with bad batteries for a good price. Any help would be appreciated.

Not clear on what you mean by "Prius Batteries." I guess you mean the 12v and the high voltage pack? Did you buy a rebuilt hybrid pack or brand new OEM?

I assume you installed that NPB your self.

If so get a DC voltmeter and open the inspection plate and measure the voltage on the battery side of the relay see what the voltage level is. I think the go-no go for starting the engine is 205 volts out of that battery. If your near that voltage level TIK TOK not many start attempts on the engine with that low of a voltage on the battery. She better fire up quick. If you kill the hybrid battery your only hope is a Hybrid Automotive charger and harness to charge it back up.

Again i assume you know what your doing.

Many many cars with bad hybrid battery. Craigs list.

Totaled is a nebulous term coined by insurance companies that want to screw the insureds, pay them a pittance and then sell the car to a parts place for more money. Often with an older car it could mean relatively small damage. Or it could mean something that looks like it came out of a can crusher. That is why I asked where on the spectrum yours was.

Pay a pittance and sell to parts place? You obviously have never bid on a totaled write-off. Here are 4 totaled or write-off CR-Vs for bid by our Government Insurance salvage. Totaled and write-off meaning the same. All these CR-Vs have had the catalytic converter stolen and car written off. Reserve bid on all 4 - $4000cdn or approx $3200usd, so $800usd each for a CRV that sells for maybe $4000 in Florida.

There are so many Canadians in Florida in the winter, everyone starts saying, ”Eh?”
