I am afraid, of exactly what I'm not sure, but definitely afraid to faint, whenever I get a vaccine or blood draw. In fact as advised back in mid 2019 when I last fainted upon vaccine administration, I now have to advise anyone giving me a shot or taking my blood that I may faint. It may or may not be obvious from my user name but I am of Asian descent. I grew up in a healthcare heavy household. I have one aunt (in-law if that matters) who refuses the COVID vaccine, and is a nurse. She has a friend who got really sick from the vaccine. Apparently from my wife this vaccine refusal is more common than I thought, in her workplace at a medical offices building (MOB). There are other ways to stop the spread such as isolation...

What I can suggest is to (carefully) read the questionnaire that they give you before you get your COVID dose. There was an issue where J&J in women with certain specific health conditions that did end up causing severe problems/even death. Did the CDC/government immediately pull J&J from use. You bet. My wife said they were told not to use J&J while the investigation took place. I took a peek at the number of doses administered by that time, and it was around 6 million. The number of bad reactions in question, I believe was 6 or so, convenient for my poor math skills that's much less than 1 percent if I'm not mistaken. Was it added to the questionnaire/warning/disclosure? I bet it was. See, I'm guilty, as probably are many, of not reading the fine print when I want something, ie I want my shot. IF (a big if) I miss one of those conditions that I may have AND have a bad reaction to the vaccine, I do not think it fair to blame the vaccine/declare them dangerous...

It's like some familiar saying on the forum here. People do not normally come to the forum and say "hey, just wanted to say my Prius has been running great", like MANY drivers experience, just the ones who are having trouble. It looks like it's a bad car to those who frequent the forum too much, but overall it isn't. I'm definitely beginning to feel bad about our Prius head gasket, even though at 33k mi I do not think we are currently having any issue....

Mine is a needle-phobia and I have fainted too. Knowing I have it, I warn the staff; look away, and; use mental discipline to thing of other things. After the shot, I sit for a few minutes until the symptoms go away and I am steady.

We're all adults and the risk of COVID treatment needles makes the three vaccinations an easy choice. Actually, treatments for vaccine preventable diseases often entails more needles than I care to think about.

My needle dislikes have links to specific incidents. As a child, "this won't hurt a bit" was used more than once for the sole purpose of stopping the fidgeting before ham-handed stabs. In second grade, a multiple-use syringe and needle (long before I would have understood that re-use on humans is a very bad thing) was sterilized in a candle flame and not allowed to sufficiently cool before the stab. Or the needle was already getting too dull. Or both. During adulthood, injections have generally been as expected, but several blood draws went poorly. A needle aspiration biopsy turned out to be the wrong approach for a nerve sheath tumor on a significant nerve bundle, causing severe pain during the failed aspiration attempt, and prompt fainting after the needle was finally withdrawn. Escalating to surgical biopsy, the first IV insertion attempt painfully collided with a vein valve, triggering vasoconstriction of all extremities, and 8 more failed insertion attempts before serious warming / moistening / numbing measures finally succeeded. Then while the next several went smoothly, the most recent was irritated for a while before a comfortable position was reached.

My body has a much longer memory for the bad needle events than for the good ones, and treats different types according to those memories. In adulthood, vaccination needles carry the very least concern.

Wow, 3 last posts talk about 'the needle'. For decades, I have avoided looking there. Epidermis can be crossed, no problem, but my eyes and thoughts must be elsewhere.

(Dismissible as humblebrag) For 100 whole-blood donations, 20 platelets (both approximately) and N fillings of little red tubes for whatever routine tests, I attended elsewhere. Fear is the mind killer, blah de blah blah.

Impressed by folks who 'watch'. Differently impressed by watching sturdy athletes making their first blood donation and hitting the deck after. It is wrong to enjoy seeing the latter.

==If I've any message here, it is that everyone views their sanctity vs. sharps differently. That froth whipped up about these plain old vaccinations plays into ... that froth.

Congrats on all the donations. And I thought my almost 72 pints was a lot. My iron levels are always too low to donate now so I won't make my 9 gallon goal.

US (and other countries I suppose) have some absurdly high blood (product) donors. Look instead to them, hack their privacy protections, and send ... balloons?

    ==
Lower-need blood types (like my A+) may already have been invited to doing platelets. I feared doing that right up until I saw my mother revived by a bag of platelets. Y'all make your own decisions, but that magic is compelling. You can do magic - only requires an hour or two of couch time with a needle or two - with nurses giving you calcium antacid pills. Ask then why :D:eek:

Hummmm, sounds like a practical test of my yoga meditation discipline. I too am A+ but have speculated about eating a big dish of hot peppers before donation.

once again, if you just look at the graphs (like the talkiing heads on TV) , things look very very bad...

    Screenshot_20220128-074945.png

    oops, it's sideways, oh well.

but then your actually read the text and find out "with the blessed roona, not BECAUSE of the blessed roona" is a critically important part they will skip over...

source: CDC Charts Show Hospitalization Rates for Unvaxxed, 2 Doses, 3 Doses
"The stats are for COVID-associated hospitalizations, which may include people for whom COVID-19 was not the primary reason for admission."

it's weird, they don't say anything about how psych patients in hospitals go up an incredible amount whenever it's below freezing outside, it the shelters close for any reason.... a great time to "test" everyone and claim that the hospitals are over run with the rooner, even though the truth is it's all regular people that wouldn't be admitted unless they claimed suicidal problems...

funny how that would in favor of more scarry news, instead of actually providing services to those folks.

Here's something many folks here might appreciate. We just bought some propane plumbing supplies so we are on their mailer email. Odd as it is, our friendly neighborhood hardware store is selling test kits. Roughly $10/piece. Get 'em while they last

We are actually a few hundred miles from the closest one, but they're shipping prices have always been quite reasonable.

    My first Smallpox "needles'......
The doctor said it wouldn't hurt a bit......
This would go on to be the first of MANY times that "medical experts" lied to me....
(Good trigger discipline on this tech....too bad Alec wasn't similarly educated....)

My second Smallpox vaccine was issued (involuntarily) in the form of the dreaded "21-gun salute...(see above)
My third one (pre deployment) was quasi-voluntary, and similarly applied.
Curiously.....I didn't get a scar from the first one, nor the typical...or ANY reaction from #s 2 or 3....which means....NOTHING since there's no such things as natural immunity in 2022.... :ROFLMAO:

    I do not fear needles.
It's some of the folks BEHIND the needles that have ME a little worried....

fortunately, i've never had a bad jab (that i know of) however, it could be the mind control they inject making me think this.

In 1993, a ‘reef toxin’ gave me all the symptoms of a stroke. The worst was my mind was trapped in a body that wasn’t working at regular speed. It was taking 5x longer to speak a sentence … I was trapped. The brilliant Stephen Hawking had it worse.

The neuro interface gives an escape portal for those trapped in their body.
