Welcome to Prius Chat, but sorry to see the damage by rodents in your still new Prius Prime. Yeah, the mouse problem has been cited. There are some threads here describing how to cover the air intake to prevent vermins entering the cabin spaces, but it really does nothing to protect the engine bay. There just are too many easy ways to access.

Some people reported the use of rodent replants spray, but I am not sure of the effectiveness of such products. As for the damage caused by rodents, it is usually covered by comprehensive coverage of your insurance. Depending on the extent of damage, the cost can be large if you have to pay out of your pocket.

Oh no....it looks like they've made nests in there! Pop off the plastic engine cover and pray they haven't chewed any wires in there.

Hopefully you don't have any issues with the car? No check engine lights or anything?

You'll need to put a lot of mouse traps or poison wherever the car is parked. After you think you got rid of them, cut up some bars of original Irish Spring soap and leave it all around the car...mice hate the smell and it deters them. (It works in our camper.)

 

Coquiltam could have used the Pied Piper this year; lots of mice/rat infestations. We had some in the house; it took concerted warfare to get shut of them.

Are you parking in a garage? Anything else nibbled? Tighten up all the points of egress, set traps. A web cam is great too:

 

Do you then threaten to post the embarrassing videos where all their mouse friends will see them, if they don't leave your house?

 

We are surrounded by woodland with all sorts of critters and protect our vehicles and tractor with Tom Cat spray on rodent repellent (available at Tractor Supply Company).

 

They’re so cute . . . until they get into your house or car. Then it’s game on. The rat that chewed a knock sensor wire on one of my previous vehicles met Victor and lost.

 

i have too many to bother with traps. i've poisoned the whole neighborhood

 

My preference is to avoid poison, since one never knows where the critter will crawl to before it croaks. With my luck it would require removing half the dash in my car or having to get behind sheetrock in the house to find it.

 

Over coating this peppered based solution after it dries with a petroleum based rustproofing will provide an additional layer of protection from rodents. They hate biting into anything oil based. Even if they do and start tasting the pepper, they would get a second shock. The oil based coating also helps to retain the pepper based deterrent.

Here's a good easy to apply rustproofing.

agreed. if it was just a mouse here or there, i would have stayed with traps.

but when you're removing several a day and baiting and resetting new traps, not to mention possible disease transmission, and the pest control experts say it's hopeless, you have to go with whatever ammo you have left in the box
