Has anyone swapped non fog housings to fog housings and is the wiring there?

There's no real pat answer to that question, it's case by case. Toyota often finds it more economical to build versions of the wire harness that don't have the unneeded wiring. They cost less, weigh less, and Toyota is selling in large enough volume that the savings matter. (It's certainly not like anybody goes through in production and removes wires. They just have wire harnesses with different part numbers that have different wires in them.)

So what you do is you look in the Electrical Wiring Diagram (more info). What you find can look like this (example only, different model, different circuit):



Look for example at the pink wires at the bottom. See how one of them is marked (*12) and the other next to it is marked (*8, *9)? And you can find those *8, *9, *12 and so on listed up in the top corner. The wire marked *12 will only be in cars with the plain radio, and cars with the navigation or the display radio will have the wire marked (*8, *9) instead. Or look at the either-red-or-black wire at the left (*6 for the red version, *7 for the black version). A car with the touch-tracer display would have the red wire, a car without would have the black one.

So that's how you can find out which wires will and will not be in your particular car.

 

I’ve had advanced and limited model Prius Primes, and the fog lights are really kind of “meh”, so I wouldn’t even bother trying to switch over, considering the cost and aggravation. It would probably be more effective to just install aftermarket fog lights that actually do provide some sort of a use instead.

To sum it up, they look nice but are not really all that effective.

 

I'd agree. Our third gen CDN Touring model has the fog lamps, though I've near-completely forgot they're there. They're so ineffective, it's hard to even tell if they're on or off.

 

I considered adding aftermarket fog lights to my XLE since, as you’ve found out, you can’t just add OEM fog lights onto the non-fog light housings.

If I were to do it, I’d get motorcycle style fog lights and mount them at this location (orange). I considered this location (red) but the light pods would be easily taken out by a curb or debris on the road.

To power them I was planning to use a marine grade relay in the engine compartment with these connections:
85: Inline fuse to battery.
86: Wire through firewall to dash switch. Switch closes to ground.
30: Inline fuse to battery.
87: Normally open. Connected to LEDs positive side.
LEDs negative side connected to chassis.

I didn’t have a chance to figure out the best path to run a wire through the firewall before things got busy and the project got pushed to the side.

Keep us posted if you decide to add fog lights. I’ll do the same.

 

Maybe this will help.

I have added these home made front LED lights a few yrs ago and still working. Just use “tap a fuse circuit” from the hood fuse box and limited by a 3A fuse. They will turn on after turning on my car. I assume u can use the same method for any after market led fog light.

I believe you can feed that white wire up from below into the fusebox along the other wires in the front left corner (passenger side) of the fusebox.

I fed some 12 awg wires through there on our 2011.
