I've had a 2010 model 5 and a 2013 model 3. In both cases the lousy nav system (and outrageously expensive) updates were beginning to drive me nuts. The Entune system is a joke. The final straw was trying to hook up my phone to use Waze. Toyota doesn't support it. So I threw in the towel, bit the bullet and opted for a 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV. What a difference! True, the gas mileage is not nearly as good as the Prius, but what a joy to drive! Handles and rides much better than the Prius, and the infotainment and nav system is superb. Nav uses a Magellan engine with real time traffic updates. It's responsive and much more accurate than the piece of junk on the Prius. I'm a Honda convert. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I never really liked the sat navis in cars. They get outdated after a year, not like Google Maps or Waze that are constantly updated. Although I get cell coverage isnt available at some locations and a sat navi is necessary You cannot go wrong with honda or toyotas
Or a hundred dollars and get a Garmin with lifetime maps and traffic? edit to add: But I do agree that Toyota's nav system is borderline criminal.
Maps on my iPhone works great! I've never seen Toyota's system, or other manufacturers, but very few seem to like them. If I have to ever replace the radio, I'd get one with airplay to make it easier...
Same here. But I like to have the Garmin on long trips. On our last 4k+ mile trip I burned through all my data before we got home. No I have unlimited data, so not as big of a deal except when out of cell phone coverage. That's where the Garmin steps in again.
We had a Garmin (model not remembered), but the last time after updating the maps before a long trip, it was telling me to take the right fork where there wasn't one, showed us driving in a cornfield when we were on the highway, and sometimes showed the car moving crabwise on a road I knew I was not on.
I've see a Garmin do stuff like that. And a TomTom. And Google Maps. And Apple Maps. And my car's nav. Come to think of it, I've never seen a perfect nav system, but the one in my car is crazy out of date and stupid expensive to make slightly less out of date.
I misspoke. The nav engine in the Clarity is Garmin with real time traffic and 5 years of updates. And the screen is beautiful. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
