Can't imagine I'd notice any flaws in a car that mind-blowingly fast...

 

I have the economical, 2019 Std Rng Plus Model 3 but after a year, I noticed neck pain. Once I raise the seat back to a higher pitch, the pain subsided.

Why in the world would any one want or need that kind of power? Or the weight of the batteries necessary. Or the tire replacement frequency and costs that go with showing it off.

 

Plaid does not have wheels or tires yet to use that power, nor the brakes to stop consistently on a track. Handling is not nearly as good because of this and possibly the suspension.

Styling and exclusivity are also part of the brand of the super cars. The carbon fiber roadster though, that may set the bar. Supercars are already adding phev drivetrains and soon bev as well.

 

People willing and able to drop that much cash on a car. Who would buy an ICE super car of similar specs and price, if the Tesla wasn't an option.

People who are serious about this kind of speed and willing to pay for it would never think of using wheels and tires the car came with on race day. As for the suspension, with these cars that's a software adjustment. Plaid was built to break all the records at the race track and that mostly has to do with fine tuning the software, so plaid will include a basic mode for the racetrack that you can use, but they don't allow you access to the engineering team that fine tuned it on race day.

 

That kind of speed... is appropriately named, Ludicrous!

Yes, someone could buy 9Lb carbon fiber wheels & maybe shave another 75 or 85 ten thousands off a ¼ mile time, (one car length) if you really think it's worth it. btw there ARE a handfull of software Engineers that make good money hacking Tesla's software, if just for security purposes. They also keep copies of each software rev & can understand the differences themselves - if they want to. Shade tree mechanic skill, though? Nope.

from watching YouTube videos, The Plaid version, on a sticky track, will actually do under 2 seconds from zero to 60. 1st & only production car ever to do that.

Like a track car, I don't know what others are thinking about, I've always been curious how many 1/4 mile runs at those speeds the plaids pack will handle without damage or degradation.

 

You'd notice that it doesn't corner well. Less well than Model 3, which is already not the best cornering machine, so not at all comparable to supercars. There's no way to hide the fact that there's a massive battery in there.

 

Dude... When you sell an advanced version of a stock vehicle for the sole purpose of owning all the records at the top race tracks in the world the kind of tires and suspension adjustments you use in real time is defined by race track, weather and the engineer with a laptop in the passenger seat dialing everything in perfectly prior to the time trial. How well a Tesla Plaid corners when it rolls off the truck and is delivered to you is irrelevant.
