Put the FOB in a case that blocks RF energy so that the car cannot sense the FOB.

I am not so sure why you want to do that. Anyone can just break a window and drive away your car... unless as pointed out already, keep the fob in a Faraday cage and hide somewhere no one can find.

 

Yeah that's the first question that comes to mind for me too. @EV Happy why do you want to do that?

Wrapping in foil will work. I'd go with just taking out the fob battery myself.

Unless its changed since the 2005MY, the doors won't lock with an unshielded, powered fob in a shut down car.

 

I am pretty sure that with the unshielded fob inside, I can lock the door using the physical key from outside.

 

I'm pretty sure there is a keystroke sequence that turns OFF the fob, so it will not interact with the car. Yup, just found it: How to turn off spare fob? | PriusChat. The last line in the instruction diagram actually says "This function enables the key to be locked in the vehicle."

 

Yep, here is the excerpt from the 2021 PP manual. It basically shuts down the fob communication to the car, similar to keeping the fob in the Faraday box or taking the battery out of the fob. But easier to reactivate it by simply pressing any button on the fob.

Still, I don't understand why OP wants to keep the fob in the car and take just a physical key. Maybe he is afraid of losing the fob? But the risk of losing the physical key is just the same?
