reconditioning hybrid battery

    Did I miss something? Oh, now I know what it was. A discussion about reconditioning a hybrid battery. Some digressions are fun. This one isn't.

    Do anyone know where I can possibly purchase a professional used Battery reconditioning unit NOT the hobby ones or those from Prolong preferably from NUVANT ? Would be most grateful for any info provided

    Im confused, so many places here say not to discharge below 6 volts per modules. But then i see some other people discharging eventually down to 3 volts. How can this be right? Is that 3 volts per cell?
    I also have 3 different hobby chargers, the cheap imax knockoff is garbage, but this dual port one has preset discharge voltages such that S6 is 4.8 volts. Am i damaging my modules going this low? Its actually produced some good maH numbers but im super confused by this.

    If i want to discharge to 6 volts its listed as S8, but i know there are only 6 cells in each module to Im afraid to use that setting.
    Also what should my capacity cutoff be? Im going with 6.5 just because thats the factory spec for a brand new battery. In theory this shouldnt matter because my modules are older than dirt, right? Theyll never reach close to 6.5 Ah again, correct?

    Same question asked and answered in this thread. Please refrain from posting the same thing in multiple threads (aka cross-posting).
    A lot of these chargers can be set for different cells per module, so ensure yours is set for 6 cells. The cutoff voltage (for both charge and discharge) should be able to be set independently of the number of cells per module.

    Because each charger I tried lacked a certain feature I was looking for, and Amazon has a lax return policy, I ended up ordering 3 different chargers.
    ICQUANZX B6 V3 Lipo Charger Balance Charger Discharger: is trash, with a wildly inaccurate voltage reading and no way to calibrate, reminds me why not to always be a cheapskate.

    Ultra Power UP240 AC Plus 240W 4-Port: honestly nothing really wrong with this one but it’s price and the discharge rate is a tad slow.

    LiPo Charger Discharger Dual AC150W DC240W 10A C240 : was the one I liked most and ended up ordering 14 of. My only question being why the discharge says 6S (4.8 v), I guess that’s .8 /cell . But why not option to discharge to 6 volts only?
    so that when I wanted to discharge to 7.2 before putting it back together, I had to select 9S, which made me uneasy.

    Unless this model also specifically has a setting for NiMH cells, you might run into problems where the programming method of charging each type is different. As you don't specifically say what the brand is, it is a little hard to know on this side of the internet. A search on Amazon brought me to an HTRC LiPo Charger, which can also do NiCd and NiMH, so if it was this one, then that is not the problem. Other than directing you to the user manual or an RC forum that discusses the charger, I'm not sure you will get the right kind of advice here on PriusChat.
    Wow, that is quite the investment if it is the HTRC brand. You would be 3/4 of the way to a completely new battery for that price. I'm not sure how the economics are worth it unless you plan on doing this on the side or you plan on reselling them after you're finished to recoup some of the cost.

    in the first cycle it reaches 7000 mAH. ( discharge 800 mAH - charge 7000 mAH) charger setting: discharge current 3A 6V, charge current 1.5 A, waste time 5 minutes, timer off

    Please help me what is the problem, the battery element is in bad conditions?

    The Mean Well charger looks interesting. I just installed the Nexpower LFP pack in my Gen 2. I make a 2 mile roundtrip daily with the Prius except for 2x a year a longer trip to visit son. The Mean Well voltage max of 286 v and 350 mA charge looks just right to grid charge my LFP battery which normally seems to run around 230 volts. For 2 miles a day I only need a fraction of a kwh, and this looks safe enough at such a low current. I used a Maxx Volt charger on the old NiMH battery, and it worked OK, but I don't have it anymore and it cost 3x the $$. The maxx Volts put out 295 volt when not connected so assume that is max volts on it, and the readout always showed about 350 mA so it is very similar. I do not need discharge on this new LFP battery. All I need is to add that tiny amount of kwh to do my local errand daily. The Mean Well appears to priced at $25 vs $300 for Maxx Volts and $400 + for Prolong. Does that Mean Well come with a power supply? Guess I will have to rig something to run the fan while it is on if it heats up the cells much?? Venice Hybrids had something along the power level and used to say that no fan was needed. But he is not into LFP packs so only comments on the OEM pack. Anybody used the Mean Well successfully? On an LFP? According to Jose's videos recently it is very safe to charge a LFP pack at these low currents. Can't imagine why it wouldn't be?? For $25 I guess I will have to buy a Mean Well if they are available in US. Of course, my battery pack cost me $2500 and a lot of work so I don't want to ruin it for sure on such an experiment! Tell me why it would though if you know, please.

    If you want a plug in car, then buy one. Even with a Li-ion pack, a Gen2 isn't designed to have the HV battery fully charged- it will throw codes if the voltage- SOC is too high. The old Gen2 PIP mods had to jump through hoops to make it "work" .

    Assuming you have a power source, then the mean well would be the power supply.

    Did you notice the ad states the meanwell has a 32 week lead time? That means it could take 8 months for delivery. Hopefully, if you decide to purchase, you can find a supplier who has it in stock.
