I think you are doing something wrong.
    I've done it many times....
    Guess you
start the car, switch the trip odometer to 'trip A", push and hold the MPH/KMH button, turn off the car (while holding said button), turn it on again (while still holding said button) and watch the reset happen.

Don't forget about 6 Months on the Oil Change. If you change your oil every 7.5k, but if it takes 10 months to reach that mileage, that is not very good either. Winter and Summer extreme temperatures take their toll.

I don't think that Toyota recommends 6 month oil change intervals.
Pretty sure it is 12 months.

It's 6 months or 5,000 miles for conventional oil, 12 months or 10,000 miles for synthetic oil.

My (Gen 3) warranty and maintenance guide gives schedules for two different categories of operating conditions. I am pretty sure that is the way they lay it out in other generations too. You're on the honor system to decide which category your operating conditions fall in.

Per the WMG, my operating conditions fall on the 5,000 mile / six month oil change schedule. With synthetic oil.

The owners manual is pretty clear that conventional oil is to be avoided, and never used twice in a row.

The Conventional Wisdom in the PC "avoid bad oil consumption / avoid blown HG" club is different than Toyota's. Club members believe that 5k / 6 months with only synthetic oil should be followed, in spite of what Toyota says. Members of this club believe that the problematic ring design used in Gen 3 Engines demand more frequent oil changes. Toyota recognized this, and changed back to standard rings at some point late in the 2014 model year.

So....given that, I'm not sure why anyone would quote a change interval with using conventional oil........because that recommendation does NOT exist.

IIRC the manual stated that it was OK to do once, if synthetic oil was unavailable. However, the oil should definitely be changed with Synthetic next time. They may have said to change the oil at 5K after a conventional oil change.

Assuming the km button actually toggles between km and miles we know the button works. It takes two hands to hold that button while powering up. Hopefully the km button is not released during the process.

I might be tempted to do a 12v power fail at this point. Disconnect the 12v negative post for 30 seconds and reconnect. You can do the same thing at the negative cable body bolt as well. Then reconnect and retry.

I don't think there is a way to reset it in Techstream.

The normal procedure to clear it is to scroll the trip odometer to Trip A, shut off the ignition, then press and hold the "Km" button while turning the ignition On (do not start the car). The display will roll from ------ to 000000 and it's done.

There are many among us in Prius Chat that say that the Oil Change interval should be 5K, not 10k. In our collective opinion, Toyota was wrong. The Gen 3 engines prior to late in the 2014 model year have oil control rings that need more frequent oil changes 10k oil changes lead to excessive oil consumption later in the life of the car.

When I bought my 2013 v in 2017, I thought that 5K was the oil change interval. As a result, I have 105k on that car and almost no oil consumption. I hope it stays that way.

And again, at the risk of repetition, 5k-or-6-months always has been officially your oil change interval, straight from the Toyota warranty and maintenance guide, if any of these conditions apply to your driving.

Km button toggles okay. Button was NOT released during the process.

I will Disconnect the 12v negative post for 30 seconds and reconnect this time.

On my 3rd Gen Prius, I have now driven over 7,000 miles without the service indicator coming on. During that time, I replaced the 12 volt battery, so disconnecting the battery should clear that indicator (among other things). Also, the reset procedure doesn't seem to do anything if the indicator isn't lit up.

I find that surprising that the computer would store the mileage of the last "Maint Rqrd" reset in volatile memory. I would expect it to be stored in non-volitile memory, so that 12 volt battery would not change it.

I had a recent fiasco with the PCV and EVAP hoses blowing off, and requiring a tow to the dealer each of the two times it happened, When it happened the first time, I tried disconnecting the 12 volt battery before calling the tow truck. It did not help. A week later, the "Maint Rqrd" light came on, and I changed the oil. I drive a lot as an uber driver, but not 5k in a week.

The conditions required for the 5K / 6 Month did not make it into your post. I assume harsh driving conditions such as Taxi / Rideshare would qualify for the 5K / 6 Month.

Is that from the Toyota warranty and maintenance guide of your 2010 hatchback? I would guess it would be the same as a 2012-2014 Prius v, but I needed to ask.

Getting back to the @Boston2008Gen2's problem, I had a thought. I did my first oil change on my 2017 Prius v four yesterday. The procedure to turn off the light is completely different. It involved going through a menu on the "Extra Info" display, which has a "Maintenance Initialization" entry in the settings menu. @Boston2008Gen2's Instrument Cluster does not have an Extra Info Display, according to his photo:
    https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2021/11/215288_IMG_20211125_110350.jpg

I know that a 2015-2017 Prius v two has a very similar looking Instrument cluster (but different part number). Is it possible that the reason that @Boston2008Gen2 cannot reset his maint light is because his instrument cluster was replaced with one from a 2015 or later Prius v trim level two? It is a long shot, but I had to mention it as a possibility.

I started working seasonal for UPS, so I am real busy during daylight hours (and real sore during other hours:)). Otherwise I would check if there is a way to clear that light in Techstream.

Sorry, I didn't retype them, they are the three boldface headings in the screenshot I attached from the warranty and maintenance guide. That is, any one or more of:

    • Driving on dirt roads or dusty roads
    • Repeated trips of less than five miles in temperatures below 32 ℉ / 0 ℃
    • Extensive idling and/or low speed driving for a long distance such as police, taxi, or door-to-door delivery use

I screenshotted the Gen 3 liftback WMG, but I am pretty sure you will find the same in your v guide. I think the language has changed not much at all through the generations.

All I see in the Toyota USA Warranty and Maintenance Booklet is this, a different service interval for 0W20 vs 5W20. The latter comes in both conventional and synthetic. Toyota makes no distinction, synth vs conventional:

My understanding is that early Prius cars could use either, but that in recent years Toyota has only recommended synthetic oil.
