Gen 4 cells in a Gen 2

Good advice thanks, do it right the first time as they say. Will order a wire frame #2 in that case.

 

I've got an 07 Gen 2 that has several bad cells. I would like to put cells a Gthe from28 cells from a Gen 4 in the 07. Have been reading some of these articles. My question is if I go to a junkyard or call them how do I know which Gen 4 has NIMH batteries?

 

where are places that I can go about finding wrecked gen 4 nimh batteries to put in my gen 2? My hv battery is operational and I am confident that it still has some life in it. It is original tho, and I would definitely change the battery before failing if I was able to find one of these. (if it made sense price wise in comparison to a new gen 2 battery from toyota) It seems to be difficult to locate them on my google searches, but I can keep it on my radar throughout the next several months. Any feedback would be appreciated.

As quoted above, the Lithium batteries are much lighter. NiMH in a Gen 2 is over 80 pounds. Not sure of the Lithium, but it's substantially lighter.

Also, you can look up the brochures. As I recall, the regular trim 2 (not the ECO 2) was NiMH for the first several years and all others were Lithium. Now the AWD version is the only one with NiMH.

Hi. Is the Prius V considered a Gen 3? Are the NiMH cells interchangeable with a Prius V?

 

The v is very gen 3. The hybrid batteries are interchangeable although I read somewhere that the 7-seat v uses Lithium.

 

I just bought a hybrid battery pack out of a 2017 Level 2.

Has anyone installed one into a gen3? I'm wondering if the Gen 4 voltage sensor harness (a.k.a "wire frame #2" but for Gen3) is plug and play in Gen 3? I cannot find a new harness online to purchase.

 

This is actually a really good question. I have a Gen 3 harness that was removed from a new Toyota Gen 3 HV battery. I also have a handful of Gen 4 harnesses. I think I need to put them side by side and see how they look.

 

The gen 3 and gen 4 are not identical. The 2018 harness I just checked only has 10 sensing points/10 wires.

This gives me a good reason to buy a spare harness and prep it.
