it sounds good, but in reality, it takes studies to understand how a population responds. pharma does studies because money.
there's no money in natural immunity to do studies

Immunity consequent to infection is extensively studied (and published). For this and many other diseases. In reality.

I don't know how many times that has come up in this 252-page thread, but >>few.

    I did both.
As it turns out, I was slimed pre-vax and I got jabbed twice anyways because (a) my cohort is slightly more susceptible to serious illness from the bug, and (2) I'm not in an occupation that allow me to 'phone it in.'

    After that?
I put the giveacrap switch in the "don't" position....because.......(wait for it.....)...........I'm vaccinated.
That means I can ignore all of the woke-splaining from "the usual suspects" wanting me to wear masks, carry a little white card (I discarded mine after the second jab) or get a "green pass".....or a "digital passport."
I don't need all that crap.
    I'm &^$#@! VACCINATED.
AND.....despite all of the efforts of dot.gov....dot.edu...and dot.org to confuse the issue....the vaccine appears to WORK!
This means that, should I happen to encounter an unvaxed person, I can KEEP MY giveacrap switch in the "don't" position......because.......(wait for it.....)...........I'm vaccinated. ;)

As a matter of person choice, I do keep a mask available....somewhere in the car, I think....just in case I have to go into a store where the employees are forced to mask - or I'm in a situation where I have to work with or around somebody who feels compelled to wear one.
I wore one the last time I was on a military base last month buying a BD present (a pistol! because I AM that kinda father in law :D) but only because the oxygenarian-in-Chief ordered both workers AND patrons to do so.

    Vaccinate.

It either works or it doesn't folks.
And even if it doesn't, you'll STILL have natural immunity to fall back on. :D

i haven't seen the studies. from what i have read elsewhere, scientists say we don't have enough data to determine if previously infected have enough immunity to avoid hospitalization and death, so they should get a shot as an insurance policy.
that's are far cry from no immunity, or full immunity.

it's kind of like the hot potato, should fully vaxed healthy people get a booster?

Pharma isn't the only one spending money on studies. There is a lot of public and academic funds going to research. Who do think is paying those lying climate scientists:rolleyes:

^ Pends on your age, your health, and other factors like whether or not you live on free soil.
    I'm out at two.

    The Pfizer shots, in April.
Since there's even less of a chance that you'll get a serious side effect from the vaccine than you'll get from the disease it's made to fight - it was a no-brainer.
    However (comma!!!)
I'm old, and my days of procreating are in the rear-view mirror.

What this means (besides making me a far more attractive employee now that paternity leave is no longer a factor) is that my risk assessment is far different than the young'uns.....

Generally speaking, it's the one who pays the most for the result that they want.
That's why there are so many studies out there with so many different "findings."

The only big diff is that scientists that are not camera hounds usually have lower wardrobe and makeup budgets.....

The whole thing has spun into more of a world of science-fiction instead of science! So the "vaccine" is only 40% effective after 6-months? So what kind of "vaccine" is this?? And look at one of the most vaccinated countries on the planet, Israel! Talk about throwing a huge cup of cold water on the whole argument for getting the shot!
People are standing up, all over the world, and refusing to give up any more liberties and freedoms in the name of "safety" Saying an unvaccinated person is a threat to a vaccinated person makes as much sense as saying a person not wearing sunscreen is a threat to a person wearing sunscreen. Let's just stop with the nonsense.
People are realizing this, and it's about dang time!

Speaking non scientifically (what I like to call "real-world") the mRNA vaccines ARE fairly effective....probably even MORE effective than the annual flu shots that some higher risk people get.

The problem I see is that many of the vaccinated folks either do not trust the vaccine or they are very misinformed about how vaccinations OR viruses really work, and the words that are coming out of the mouths of "experts" place even MORE doubt in the minds of the wavering public.
I've LITERALLY heard trained "scientists" IN THE MEDIA of one of the most powerful nations claim WITHOUT CHALLENGE from "science" that since we eradicated polio, smallpox, MMR, and all of those other medieval favorites that we need to nut-up and do the same thing with COVID......in the same way.
I'm also seeing "science" suggest that we should force vaccinations upon children, which some people (mostly without children of their own) seem to think are biologically the same thing as adults only a little smaller.
    AGAIN....largely unchallenged in MSM.

    The only thing is?
Some people actually pay attention to the world around them and ask embarrassing questions like why we do not mandate influenza vaccinations....or why it is that the 5 (de facto) federally mandated vaccinations for school age children all protect against vaccines that are VERY DIFFERENT than COVID and have very different inoculation schedules....or how long those viruses were in trials before being mandated....

Some people ask questions like how Coronavirus is smart enough not to infect 106,000 unmasked people at a college football game....or why tens of thousands of newly released immigrants don't have to get the shot but their kid or dad DOES...or why you may certainly protest and burn cities without a mask, but kids playing a schoolground cannot....but hey.....

    Not.
    My.
    Fight.

    I'm pro vax.
    I'm vaccinated.
I'm SO vaccinated that I'm not uncomfortable around the unvaccinated.
I'm SO vaccinated that I don't feel the need to put some magic piece of fabric on my face that will not stop smoke, perfume, bad breath, body odor, or diesel exhaust - but WILL stop COVID if you ask the "experts."

I believe we have 2 types vaccines that are extraordinarily effective against a class of bugs that are very VERY different from diseases like smallpox, polio, MMR, that CAN be statistically eliminated.
    AND...if you get the 'vid?
We have TWO types of treatment that will stop it from killing you in nearly all cases!

I also believe, like many other people, that vaccine mandates are not going to stop with 2 jabs....or with the "vulnerable" or even with adults....or Covid.

We have 195 nations of varying size and political proclivities, and I've asked this before (and not seen any answers) but if America is effing this up so badly....which nation do we use as a role model?
Who has the "secret sauce?" ;)

I don't have to worry about somebody force jabbing ME, because....
    I'm pro vax.
    I'm vaccinated.
I'm also ANTI tyranny - but I figure I can sit this fight out.

You can scare old people into getting the shot.
You can force (some) working people to get the shot.
    However (comma!!!)
I'm thinking it's gonna be a different sort of fight when you try to force the littles into getting it.

    Either way?
It will be entertaining to watch! :)

A person not wearing sunscreen doesn't emit UV light.

Absent a valid reference or citation, this posting is nonsense and unpersuasive. We know the USA has enemies and disinformation like this posting is one of their tools:

Considering how many things cause common colds, a universal common cold vaccine would need many components.

But is seems conceivable that a (future) covid-19 vaccine might also be able to take aim at the 4 coronaviruses causing roughly 20% of common colds. Then add something else to go after the rhinoviruses, and you'd have something making a big dent in this group of diseases.

"You can scare old people into getting the shot.
You can force (some) working people to get the shot."

For the sake of completeness we can add:
You can provide compelling evidence of usefulness and some people will use it to make rational decisions.

(there another, somewhat entertaining 'you can', but the main thing is to not ignore the existence of rational people)

A study of sports-crowds infections (excerpt and link):

"The findings of this cross-sectional study suggest that social gatherings among unvaccinated students were associated with increased COVID-19 infections (in this scenario, slowing the previous downward trend and briefly increasing) in a university’s community beginning 8 days after the event, which corresponds with the 75th percentile of time to symptom onset."

Unlike the SAT or other screening tests, COVID-19 behavior applies to the biological, fertile population. Darwin wins.
