Just had a failure last week and Toyota fixed it. I have been compiling about paying for it. It was replaced in 08/2013, got a another recall that said bring iin if you had the lights, I thought that I already had good parts and BAMM failure. Dealer said not covered.
Your profile says 2005. Do you have a Gen 3 also? This is a thread in the Gen 3 forum, and that post was about a service campaign that applies to Gen 3.
Yes, I saw that post (you were on the thread there) and downloaded the document from Toyota. Saw that some folks had issues getting the repair covered because no warning light was coming on (that's the case with me). Yes, my 2005 was rear ended and totaled 3 weeks ago. I bought a 2013 three days ago. My local Toyota Dealer couldn't do a full diagnostic this morning bc it's Sunday, but a couple of the techs listened and tested the brake pedal. But no warning light is coming on, so they are only guessing, like me, that it's the Brake Booster. Told me possible $2-3K for repair, if in fact the brake booster and related system needs replacement. But I'll have to bring it back tomorrow when full service is open. There's a whole side issue going on, which is, bought this car from another dealer "AS IS" and have until today at 6pm to return it (and pay $500 to do so) if so. But I love the car...would be great if we KNEW Toyota would pay for this probable repair. Thanks for your input...I'm in a dilemma.
So you're covered under ZJB for another couple years or nearly 80,000 miles, even if the dealer says "yeah that's clearly on the way out but we can't cover you until the codes show up." Can you say more about the symptoms you're experiencing, or maybe post a recording? You have another thread about a "beep", but a recording might be more revealing.
Thanks. Will record and try to post video below..it's not a Beep (that was poor wording) more a Whine. What's ZJB?
Also, when I pump the brake pedal there’s no resistance building up. Having tech issues posting video. Here’s a link: https://share.icloud.com/photos/0bKFu3yXmCkncINuorSKNLxnQ
Sigh ... technical issues for me playing from icloud. Round spinny forever and nothing else. I think PriusChat allows video uploads in the Media section....
The sound matches exactly with sound on another video posted on a Brake Booster thread...possibly the post you mentioned earlier, possibly another...but definitely resonates with my issue. Any case, I'll need to face the issue tomorrow with my local Toyota dealer and hope for the best...or return this Prius today to the dealer who sold it "As Is" and be heartbroken and out $500. Appreciate your support...thanks so much.
Rats, no use here either. With apologies to Clarke, it seems that any sufficiently DRM-obsessed streaming site is indistinguishable from malware, and therefore won't work on any of my devices. I did manage, however long ago that was, to carve out an exception for youtube, and have tried not to breathe on it since. Often it's possible to make a video a whole lot smaller by transcoding it to a lower resolution; phones tend to assume you want super HD for everything these days, making the files huge, and really not contributing much to brake diagnosis.
Burebista just uploaded video. Thanks! The car dealer who sold me this 2013 Prius just agreed to pay $200 for Toyota to diagnose issue. Depending on estimate, I’m leaning on doing repair. And if Toyota dealer thinks it’s a covered repair under that Brake Booster warranty extension, even better.
