Prius 2005 is showing rapid fall of speed when I release a accelerator

    I have bought a 2005 prius with 150k miles on it and the hybrid battery is changed recently.. The car was going good and I have driven 1000 miles in 2 days after buying it. After completing one long ride (300 miles) I think it's speed is going low very fast after I release the acceleration. It's acceleration is low compared to other cars and I have noticed it before. But now when I get my foot off the accelerator padal it feels like car is jammed suddenly and the speed drops very fast which I did not expect. So far I am thinking checking these things:

    1. brakepads
    2. brake caliper
    3. Any clog from fuel tank to engine

    I don't know about cars that much but trying to learn. Is there anything else that might be checked? And how can I diagnose this problem more efficiently and fix it?

    I am a very new car owner and trying to learn now. Any help will be appreciated.

    Several things are possible.
    Dragging brakes is right at the top of the list.
    Does anything smell "hot" after driving ?

    Your best bet likely would be to get a diagnostic report from a dealership......and then decide what to do.

    If you really want to do some of your own car repairs, look for a community college close to you that has a "basic auto mechanics" course.
    You can NOT learn everything you need to know from an online forum.
    And some of the things you "learn" will be wrong.

    Did you accidentally put it in "B" mode instead of "D" (Drive)?

    If you check your brakes and it has lots of rust, it may be time to get the entire brake system checked. Dragging brakes is probably the issue. Many places will do a free brake inspection, find a place and have them check out the brake system

    Yep, my first thought were brakes...something might be rubbing. When it's decelerating, does it tend to want to pull to the right or the left? Find a big hill and roll down the windows and listen while going down the hill for any noises from the brakes.

    Another easy check would be to put it up on stands and then put the car in neutral and spin each tire and listen for pads rubbing. When I recently changed out my daughter's front brakes in her 2012 Sienna, the right calipers had much more rust than the left and the pads on the non-caliper side were actually rusted to the bracket so we know that one was not doing what it was supposed to. (I lubed all metal parts that made contact with pads with antiseize to prevent it in the future.)

    Actually I thought something like that but turns out it is in D. I have let my friend drive to see if he also feels same like after releasing accelerator it feels something is pulling back, and found out it was same for him.

    I just checked as you have said but it does not get biased while going downhill. One thing I have noticed the rate of deceleration. When the speed is below 10mph, the speed falls slowly. The rapid deceleration happens when the speed is above 20mph. It feels like something is pulling from behind or the parking break is on (actually it is not).
