My 2010 Prius engine appeared to be dead. Son drove it with no oil. Anyone know if a decent shop to get rev engine replaced? What should I look to spend ?
Hybrid pit will not be around 3,500 you are looking closer to 4,500 with egr system cleaning also. http://www.RedBullet.net Toyota hybrid battery upgrade pack– NexPower Energy http://www.Pulstar.com http://www.PlugOutPower.com Use code 7373 http://www.hybridpit.com use code azusa
And (obviously) these are salvage engines. Hopefully not too high up in miles. Does Hybrid Pit do 4th gen into 3rd transplants? Cheaper? The 4th gen engines tend to be lower miles, and there were some improvements. Hybrid Pit would know all the ins-and-outs of 4th-to-3rd swaps, if they’re doing them regularly. Be sure to get intake manifold and Exhaust Gas Recirculation system cleaned too; I think they’re on that.
They advertise these JDM engines with approximately 55k on them. These are from Japan. Probably a good source for installation information.
Hybrid Pit has done gen 3 to gen 4 engine swaps but the gen 4 engine costs more not less, it weighs less though. I stayed with a gen 3 engine, was able to pick my choice of VIN# from three shown to me. I carfaxed the engine and picked the one with lower miles. So far so good with my engine from them, but know that they are busy and you will need and appointment. http://www.RedBullet.net Toyota hybrid battery upgrade pack– NexPower Energy http://www.Pulstar.com http://www.PlugOutPower.com Use code 7373 http://www.hybridpit.com use code azusa
hmmmm...from my recollection, the red triangle of death appears and the car goes into limp mode with low oil, so I wouldn't blame the son... ie he literally could not drive it w dangerously low oil. More likely, since its a 2010, it's a head gasket. Hybrid Pit in Buena Park is without a doubt the place to have iany prius work done in SoCal. I got a new head gasket, water pump, and air intake for $1700 on my 2012 prius w 250+k miles and it's been running better than the day I bought it used with 9ok.
