I need some advice about my 2007 Prius. A few days ago some of the dash lights randomly came on while driving (ABS, VSC, ! brake light). After shutting the car off for several hours, I checked again and the lights were off and haven't came back on. The same thing happened a few months ago. When I let off of the gas or brake pedal there is a weird popping/clunking sound that I have noticed for several months now. I'm not in a situation where I can afford a costly repair. The car already has 211k on it. Is it likely that whatever caused the dash light issue will keep happening or could it have been a random event? I'm trying to decide if I should keep it another year until it's paid off or just trade it back in now before the problem gets worse.
It's not likely to be a random event. If you keep it for another year, it'll have another year of problems. What's it worth to you for it to be paid off? How much can you get for it if you traded it in now?
I'm going to the dealership Monday to get specifics, but by my guess they're probably not going to give me enough to pay off my loan. I owe approximately $3500 left on it and by KBB trade in value it shows $2200-2500, so probably less than that is what they will give me. I agree that another year will probably just bring more problems. I'm a college student with not a lot of money so I definitely can't afford to fix something really expensive, but I need something reliable to get me to class.
Can't make any recommendation until you have ALL the modules in the car scanned with a compatible scantool to retrieve codes. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Welcome to PriusChat!! When was the last time the inverter coolant pump was replaced? Just a WAG, but this sounds like a DTC P0A93. The next time this happens see if the AC is working properly. You can also check for turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir, and or feel the pump housing for vibration using a finger/stick/rod/pencil. Going forward, best to use a hybrid compatible OBD2 scanner to retrieve the codes (DTCs), then post them here for additional guidance.
Well, I'm sure the problem (whatever it is) is SOMEWHERE between the front and rear bumpers... Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
